PCI-E Graphics Card for £30-40 please!

Hi there,

Currently building a PC for a friend, and having received the motherboard (Asus P5LD2-SE) we realised that we'd accidentally opted for a card without on-board graphics! We were previously planning on using on-board graphics initially and upgrading to a seperate GPU at a later date. Unfortunately we now need to get one at the same time. The PC is already pretty much at budget, so would prefer to spend no more than £30-40 delivered (currently have an order open with ebuyer, so could add it to that if one can be found from there).

Don't want to exceed budget too much further, but it would be nice to be able to run Half Life 2 and maybe Oblivion at playable frame rates.
Been looking for a nvidia 256mb 6800gt maybe, but they seem difficult to find!

Thanks :)

I don't know much about the 6 series graphics card but I went straight for the most expensive one which is this:
http://www.ebuyer.com/UK/product/114006
XFX Geforce 6800XT 128MB DDR3 128bit Dual DVI PCI E Graphics Card @ £35.71 Inc. VAT

Or if you want to go further:
http://www.ebuyer.com/UK/product/119697
Innovision GeForce 7600GS 256MB DDR2 PCI-E Graphics Card @ £43.07 inc VAT
A bit over budget but is a decent Graphics Card.

Or the cheapest 8 series:
http://www.ebuyer.com/UK/product/129802
Point Of View 8400GS 256MB GDDR2 DVI VGA HDCP ready PCI-E Graphics Card @ £31.01 inc VAT

And don't forget about Home delivery charges.

Would the 6800 or 7600 be capable of running Oblivion?

the 8400Gs is not even worth thinking about

personally I would go for the 7600GS just because it has the 256MB memory, the 6800's draw distance (because of the smaller memory) I dont think would cut it even though it has the extra power.

so I say 7600Gs and overclock it back up to GT speed's and you are well away

but on a side note, if you can find a 7300GT with the DDR3 modules they are actually faster than the 7600Gs at stock so a worth while buy if you can find one
