a xiaomi mi band 2 is what i use and i think its great. only about £20~ atm :-)

Can someone advise if the xiaomi mi band works by itself or do you need to carry the phone with you as well? I am asking because I don't expect the phone battery to last for long and wondering if the band will do its job without the phone.

I'd say watch, if you don't have/wear one.

I bought a fitbit Blaze recently and I love it. Doesn't require you to have a phone with you but you can get increased functionality if you do have one.

My wife has one and I'm sure you don't have to be near the phone

I've used the original mi band and it counts while not near phone. you can have Bluetooth off and then sync it every so often. or can use it for notifications which Is good if phones out of site..

Just jumping on the bandwagon as I'm also interested...I had an app on my phone but even if I knocked the phone in my hand it would count steps. It might have been a naff app so any recommendations for reliability? I'm a nurse so it's always in my pocket on my hips so it's going to get knocked quite a bit and the whole point is that I can see how much I'm walking on a shift.

I can't wear a watch below the elbow to work so are there any options for either wearing on the ankle or upper arm?

Thanks :)

Ive not got one so can't comment on it (I have a Fitbit), but this one would probably meet what your after - you can pop if out of the watch strap and attach it to your clothing.
