Pet Insurance

Hi!

We have a Pedigree Boxer (1 1/2 old) and a Moggy cat. Their Insurance with Direct Line has just gone up.

I know there are lots of offers through Quidco for normal insurance, but there is limited Animal Insurance offers.

Currently paying just over £20 a month - any tips on getting it cheaper would be appreciated.

Ta.

I know that Marks and Spencer pet insurance was the cheapest DECENT cover for our Pedigree dog.

Definitely worth getting a quote anyway.
Make sure you look at the benefits each company provides as well, not just the price. The benefits vary a lot between companies.

Cheers.

Thanks - the Missus' Ma is with M&S and raves about them, but we checked last year and because we've got a Boxer and they are prone to Accidents and Hip problems, the premium was more expensive!

Avoid Tescos Pet Insurance - failed to pay out substantial parts of claims that my vet advised would have been covered by any of the others.

im with argos for my kitten, it was cheapest i found

Avoid Tesco I agree.

Argos are cheap as they offer so little cover.

M&S are good, I use them - they offer a good reward and vet fee cover.

Direct line were my other choice, but, after seeing they only offer 50 pounds as a reward if your dog goes missing I decided against.

Avoid skimping on your pet insurance

I use Pet Plan, they might be slightly more expensive than other people, but they give alot better cover for your pets. I have never had any claim rejected & i have no complaints as my vet fills in all the forms & claims the money back so i'm never out of pocket.

Some companies require you to pay a percentage of your vets bills as well as your excess, so beware.

Hope this info helps

Would defo recommend Petplan, I have pets ranging from rescue, show and breeding, and it covers them all. I have found cheaper plans in the past that turned out to be worthless as they wouldn't cover you life long and some of the cheaper companies if you pet has an accident while with them will refuse your renewal policy when it comes to it.

I have one of my cats on their plan and it has had soo many accidents and injuries now that if I took it elsewhere 3 outta 4 legs would not get covered by other companies, but with Petplan they cover all his legs, and that has saved us £1000s. We only ever have to pay the excess of a treatment each new policy year if he needs treatment again.

Try and get lifetime cover as soon as possible also, because if your just doing it year by year, some companies won't taken on animals at a certain age, not a problem for your boxer at mo, but could be one in future as well as with your cat.

http://www.compare-pet-insurance.com/pet/index.php

that site lists the online deals. Do NOT go with E&L they are one of the companies that will refuse a renewal of your policy after an accident, then you'll end up with an uninsurable pet if you try and move elsewhere or a part uninsurable. (sounds stupid i know)

I must recommend M&S.
We are with them for our pedigree dog. No problems whatsoever. The two claims we have had to make have been settled quickly and without fuss.
We also have no excess, which is great.
Their allowances are also very good as well.
They may not be the cheapest, but I think in this case cheapest is not always the best.

i searched lots when i got my new puppy and cheapest i found was esure i pay just 5 pounds a mth

We have two cats covered by PetPlan. I think it's PetPlan, almost 100% sure.

It was actually a good price for getting both cats insured together, they sent out i.d. tags and such and all seems good up till now. Personally I hope we never have to claim.

We did search around and PetPlan seemed to offer the best deal (for 2 cats anyway) with a nice Quidco payment and they seem relieble too.

i have 2 stafft dogs, one is 13 which will be hard to insure, the other is 3,and in 5 weeks im getting a little girl staff,so i need to insure 3 dogs.I think i might go with pet plan, has anyone tried there multi pet plan. Think it might be worth me going for that.if pet plan dont accept to insure my older dog, does any one recommend any other good cheap decent reliable insurance companies that will.
