I am fairly certain Google does not work that way. I have £1.65 credit for example and if I wanted to purchase a £3.00 app I would need to pay the £3.00 in full by a different method (e.g. debit card)

As others have said you have to pay fully using just one payment method. You cannot split the cost between two methods such as google credit and debit card
