The FM transmitter really downgrades the quality. Have you got option of 3.5mm jack or casset player?

Is it hard to change a CD player in the car?

I have a dashboard screen which tells me what station I'm listening to and apparently if I replace the stereo, it won't display info anymore?

When I changed my stereo in my old car I was told the same however the new head unit displayed the info so not a problem.

Dash still displayed date/time and outside temp.

Check for auxiliary or 3.5 mm socket in back of radio. Failing that get bluetooth speaker cheap and can use it outside car as well.

Does it display the radio station and the cd track number?

Go to a B&M store. Get a belkin FM transmitter for iPhone 4/4S for £5 or iPhone 5/5s/5c/6 etc for £12.99

Works great :-)

My aux socket is inside the glove compartment, found out after googling as I couldn't locate it for months and was wondering why I had an aux button on the dashboard :D

The new head unit did yes,I think most of them will. Even had date and time if I wanted it.

Surely you just need to decide what's more important, playing the music from your phone or knowing what track cd you're listening to!

There are a lot of decent head units out there now that can be used with a phone

I bought mine around 4 years ago and got a cracking deal. Head unit was in Halfords for around £160. I got it from agmrgis clearance on eBay for £60 and when getting rid of car I sold it for £45.

Able to use it easily with phone, unit displayed details of music on phone as well

I have a Ford car with the large cd player. To stream music from phone i tried a few things but could not stop the buzzing and interference if the phone was plugged into car charger with jack out to fm modulator. That's the biggest problem if you use a jack to jack direct connection. I had to go wireless bluetooth to stop the buzzing. What I did was fit a Wired FM Modulator fitted to Car Aerial socket with 3.5mm jack. I then bought a usb bluetooth adaptor that powered off a 12 volt normal sized usb plug adaptor. I bought the adaptor for £3. Modulator for £11. Wired 12 volt usb adaptor to power bluetooth was £3. Wired into switch wire on stereo. All off eBay. Works a treat but a lot of work to do it. Instructions and how to on net. Better to buy a bluetooth stereo.

The fm modulator fits to the aerial at the back of car stereo. Not to be confused with the cigarette fm transmitter type which are poor.

What phone did you have?

It would have been an iPhone 3gs and then a 4 at the time.

Could also play music via an iPod or use stick.

Yeah but it's unlikely to be any better than what you have at the moment as it works in exactly the same way.

I find the sound quality ok but it's just a pain having to plug the cable in every time.

So to confirm, if I but this, I can stream all my music in the car with no wires?

Apparently that device doesn't send music from your phone to your FM without a cable.

Anyone know of something that does for under £20?

Don't expect great things from something so cheap. Better off paying more and getting something decent.
