Playstation 2 & Final Fantasy Games

Hi all,
Ok so the PS3, Wii and 360 are all now out and vying for our hard earned £££'s, so I figure a new PS2 should be cheap as chips and much more in keeping with my budget. I'm also after some Final Fantasy games (X, X-2 and XII) and an extra official controller + memory card.

So far the best prices I can find are as follows:

PS2: £89.98 from Amazon.
Final Fantasy X: £12.99 from blahdvd.com
Final Fantasy X-2: £12.99 from Play.com or blahdvd.com
Final Fantasy XII: £24.99 from HMV.co.uk
Official controller + memory card: £23.99 from Amazon.co.uk
(if anyone could recommend a good / reasonably priced wireless controller I wouldn't mind one of those instead )

£89.98 still strikes me as a bit much for an outdated console......can anyone beat that?

Oh and I never got round to getting Final Fantasy IX on PS1, I've been after it for ages. Anyone know where I could get hold of that from and how much I'd be looking at?

Cheers

ebay the chunky PS2s go for £50-60 and the slim ones go for £70

Wish i had bought one when they were on offer as I want a slim but only have £50 really :(

http://www.choicesuk.com/Product.aspx/!823199

£90

If you can find a choicesuk 10% that will make it £81 and you can sell the eyetoy + camera for probably £10-15 so it would make a brand new slim console £66

can also use quidco for 5% off
#2
Cheers tsinc, £81 still seems a bit steep for an ageing console though given what games + controllers etc. will add to the overall price :-(
#3
cheapest ive seen is ebay and they are going for anything between £40-90 for the old style and the slimline seem to go for £60-80.

Im gonna try and pick a PS2 up today from a shop in town, I could try and get one for you if you wanted?
Think it comes with all the leads and 1 controller for £55
#4
Now £55 is much more like it, where from?
#5
A shop in Liverpool has them but I don't think they deliver, I could collect one for you and send it on if you wanted?
Think its the old chunky style as well, but it comes with a 12 month guarantee with it :)
I'm going to go down tomorrow to have a look as I'm after one myself

Thanks anyway

Update:
Got FFX and FFX-2 on 2 for £25 from Game and FFXII for £29.99 minus 10% (for being a student) from Game also, I was there and a couple of extra quid to not have to wait around for the postman didn't seem like a great loss.

I'm still on the lookout for a cheap, new, slimline PS2 and all the other stuff. So if anyone knows of any deals.....

Although I'm in no great rush as I've borrowed someone else's for now, so can afford to wait around for an offer I can't refuse, but they will want it back eventually :-).

Cheers

Get your local free-ads paper, should be some in there.

RRp for this is still about £95 so you'll be lucky to get much lower than the £81 as there isnt much margin in consoles.

Hi megalomaniac, did you have any success. My nephew's ps2 recently broke and he loved it, so we are looking to replace it with a slimline preferably silver one. I agree £80 seems a bit steep.

Anybody else that has seen new ps2's out there for a bargain please let me know?

Also, is the reason I cant search for 'ps2' because the term is too short?

thank you in anticipation :-D

No success as yet I'm afraid. eBay seems the cheapest place at the moment but you're still looking £70+ and it's amazing what some people on there consider to be "new" :o.

Btw how did the computer hunt go?

I wonder if that move by play will start a price war, I hope so.....£50 is my ideal price, I am but a poor student after all.

Which graphics card did you get in the end? I assume it's all going ok? Did you plump for XP or Vista in the end?

Sure a poor student, try living on £3 a week, lol, im a bit miffed as I get annoyed when people say they are poor then want to buy expensive things like these.

I barely afford food, and have no heating, I cant even rent a DVD as I cant afford it.

You should be lucky.. when I was a student they hadn't even invented DVD's ;)

You might want to save up for a sense of humour before you bother with silly things like food and heating. :giggle:

FYI; I work on top of my studies to be able to pay the bills and barely afford such things (hence not getting one till I find one for around £50).

Good offer, but still a tad steep for my wallet once I factor in an extra pad + memory card. I for one am hoping that it will start a bit of a price war.

Speaking of memory cards and pads....any good offers on those? Cheapest official memory cards I've found are £10.99 on DVD.co.uk.
#24
Anyone found any decent offers? I missed the play one, best I can find is a PS2 + mem card from john lewis for £90 (after £20 using the code)
