I have had a search on Google, but I still can't seem to get it working!

I am trying to connect my Sony KDL-40EX603 TV and Virgin Media TV box to a Panasonic SC-BTT400 Home Theatre System. I have 2 HDMI cables and an optical cable.

I have connected the Home Theatre and TiVo to the TV via HDMI and the Tivo to Home theatre using the optical lead, but I just can't get the sound to work!!

Any help with this is greatly appreciated. Thank.

have you set the sound to come from the optical port, also if ur tv has an optical out use that directly to ur sound system

RTFM? Shouldn't the tivo be plugged into your panasonic box via hdmi and not into the tv?

You can have the Tivo to the telly (HDMI) and optical to to panny as long as he selects 'digital in' on the panny rather than HDMI (ARC) (page 23 in the manual) http://tda.panasonic-europe-service.com/docs/2z5303e2a5z3z392eaz656ez706466z24z24094efb1824c7d06ec81b2cffbd0cd7576c182c/tsn3/data/ALL/SCBTT560EB/OI/907772/vqt4q16.pdf

Thanks for this. The sound works when I select the EXT and digital option, but does that mean the hole theatre has to remain on this screen 24/7? Is there no way for the sound to come out of the speakers while the system is on standby?

Thanks for your help this far guys!

Why can't you just put the HDMI through the Panny? You won't need the optical then. And you should be able to just have the TV on without the HTS via 'passthrough'. (page 17)

HDMI standby pass-through
Even if this system is in standby mode, the audio and/or video signal from the device connected to the HDMI1 IN (CABLE/SAT)
or HDMI2 IN terminal will be sent to the TV connected to the HDMI AV OUT terminal (the sound will not be output from this
system). Even while the unit is in the standby mode, you can change the input signal HDMI1 IN (CABLE/SAT) or HDMI2 IN by
pressing [EXT-IN] on the remote contr

Do you want to/needto run something else through it? In that case you'll either have to have the TIVO optical (digital) only and have the HTS on when you want to watch (hear) the TIVO, or failing that get a 2 0r 3 into one HDMI adaptor.

The TiVo is the only thing I want to have connected to it. So I will need the ext in menu on 24/7? P

The pic on P17 has 2 HDMI in and 1 out. Are you saying yours only has one out and no in?

No, you can have it on standby. But you will need to have your TV set to whatever HDMI in the HTS is in on the TV.

Looking at the manual further seems to suggest that the pass-through feature is only on the [BTT560] [BTT500] models.

But then I will see the HTS menu rather than TiVo? Sorry, I'm really grateful for all your help so I'm not meaning to come across sounding frustrated haha :)

No, if you have it on passthrough you will see the TIVO menu as normal.

However, you might have missed my edit above. The manual suggests that passthrough is only a feature on the [BTT560] [BTT500] models. P30/P38

Crickey, this might be more annoying than I though? May have to give Panasonic a call tomorrow. Thanks for all your help again mate! Will have another fiddle with it in the morning.

No problem. Just ask them does your specific model have pass-through. If it doesn't then you'll have to have the HTS on if you want to listen to the Tivo through it (either HDMI or Digital).

Let us know how you get on.

The way I do it is TIVO BOX > HDMI > HD TV > OPTICAL CABLE > SURROUND SOUND SYSTEM (setting on surround sound system to DIN which will surround any source from the HD TV.

You may only notice it though when watching HD channels, SD channels will not push surround information.

Hope this helps :)

Righto, managed to get the sound working by connecting the HTS to TiVo via Optical. Now have 2 further problems:

1. HTS doesn't work with HD channels.
2. Centre speaker or sub woofer doesn't release any sound.

All I can suggest is that you check the troubleshooting guide in the manual. If it works on say, BBC1 ok but when you switch to BBC1 HD it goes off then I'm stumped tbh. Make sure your centre and sub are connected properly.

Hi guys, did you manage to resolve this as I appear to be having similar issue with a Toshiba TV, TiVo box and a panny surround sound!!
