Please help me shop at Comet for an MP3 player and laptop for kids xmas

I was lucky enough to be given a 15% voucher code to use in Comet.

I have no techie ability but need some presents for children for xmas, age 10, 9 and 8.

Firstly I need MP3 players - I don't have one and have no idea how they work, I was told not to get an ipod because of cost and the kids age and not to get Sony as you have to do something funny when downloading tracks ??

Is this one OK please ?
Archos Clipper £19.99

http://www.comet.co.uk/shopcomet/product/576646/ARCHOS-CLIPPER-2GB

I thought that this might be Ok for the youngest and perhaps something a bit more expensive for the oldest if you can help please.

Next the eldest wanted a laptop / netbook - I really don't know the difference, he just wants to go on the internet really.

Can anyone find a good deal I could use my voucher code on please.

Thanks for the help with my Chrismas shopping.

Firstly, that MP3 player looks very basic so should be fine for your youngest.

It seems like there are only next/previous track and volume buttons, so thats all good. As for getting music on that one, it should be just drag and drop! Amazon do very cheap MP3 downloads so you could always buy music from somewhere like that and play it back.

As for your laptop, most have wireless internet as standard these days so any on Comets websites should be fine for just surfing. I noticed that most of them (netbooks) on their website are running Windows XP and not windows 7. That should be ok though for basic computing.

Thanks for the reply.

Is there a player you would pick for the older one that perhaps has a few more features?

I worked with kids at a primary school, and they all seem to love the ipod nano. Mainly because it is the fashionable thing to have i think! Although, I have one and I like it too. Just depends on whether the budget will stretch, because its not the cheapest player.

philips jukebox/go gear are good and alot cheaper than the iPod.

As for the netbook/laptop. It's probably easier (if you don't already have the internet) to get one on an internet deal. therefore, you pay nothing for the laptop itself, just for the internet. Easy. And there really are no snags in that because i took part in that deal

Good point, those deals are good for some people. But, they normal tie you into a contract which may be a draw back for some. Still worth looking into

Thanks folks.

I was put off an ipod not because of the initial price but someone told me it costs more to download tracks, and you can't get the freebie tracks that are sometimes available ??

We do already have internet, so a laptop deal isn't going to work with a contract I am afraid.

Personally I don't like the iPOD mentality. So I have the Archos Gmini as thsi way I can use any download site to get the music.

Doesnt look as pretty as the ipod, but sound quality is superior

A good "well balanced" review site is channel 5's the Gadget Show.

I think a few weeks ago they did some test and preferred the Sensa Clip

I have just picked up a COMPAQ CQ61-360SA laptop from Comet this morning. It was priced at £379.99 but I had a 15% discount voucher and got it for £322.99. I reserved it online first (and got quidco too!). I think it is an excellent price for the spec. They are selling fast though. My nearest store didn't have any, so had to drive a couple of miles further.

With regard to the Comet vouchers, I think you can only use each voucher on one item, rather than one order. Therefore, if you have several items to buy, you may need a voucher for each. However, I could be wrong about that.

Good luck with your shopping!
