Portable consoles

Hello all, I want a portable console so I need never be at a loose end again, regardless of my circumstances. It needs to be small enough to fit comfortably in my pocket and cheap enough that I don't feel bad when I get bored of it in a few months. There should be a suitable range of good games so that I'm lured back to when I'm over my boredom.

Does anyone have any recommendations which one I should get and where I should get it from? I was thinking the gameboy micro...

pricerunner is the best bet

Much obliged. I've had a look but I fear my best bet might be 'the site which must not be named' and it's 'as new' goods.

You can mention eBay you just can't link to auctions. I think the difference is understandable :D

In any case I would assume most people these days now that eBay exists for "as new" goods...

Gamepark GP2x!

gp2x.co.uk or from lik-sang.com

Great little console, runs on 2AA batteries, has an SD slot, runs a Linux core, loads of community applications, and will play almost any ROM you throw at it (the DrDMx Megadrive emulator is perfect, and the SNES, PSX and NeoGeo emulators are pretty good. There are also Gameboy Colour and Advance emulators on their way).

I'll suggest a PSP .. bought Nintendo DS for my daughter for her birthday and she refused to play it now .. with more and more titles coming out for PSP and with Sony support.. I don't think you'll go wrong with it.

Actually, the DS is the one with more support and in my opinion with the better titles.

Plus it is backwards compatable with all GBA games.

But if you do buy the DS you may want to take into consideration that the DS Lite is around the corner (already out in Japan), and is a huge improvment on style, but also has a brighter screen.

If you get a PSP with firmware version 1.5 you can run loads of emulators including SNES, Megadrive, nes, Gameboy, Gamegear, MAME, SCUMM (lucasarts) but i don't think there is a neogeo one yet.

This is a pretty shameless plug, but I have a PSP for sale in the For Sale forum with 58 PSP games and loads of emulators and ROMS. Only £240.

Thanks for all of your advice. However, much as I hate to look like I made up my mind, asked advice and then ignored it, I think the GP2x is more than I need, the PSP is too big and too expensive and the DS looks to bulky (and not really pocket shaped).

Therefore, I think the micro is the way forward. Any ideas as to where I can get one cheaply? Preferably with games.
