(YOU DONT HAVE TO READ THIS PART, I AM JUST EXPLAINING WHAT HAD HAPPENED PRIOR TO PURCHASE, SCROLL DOWN TO THE BOTTOM TO READ MY ACTUAL QUESTION!).
So my friend purchased this amazing offer which was doing the rounds on facebook, the company has been around for 10 years+ and has/had over 165,000 likes on facebook with good reviews when searching in google. There was no reason to question them. The service my friend required (physical service not goods), was £80 and usually this kind of service costs upwards of £250, but they were offering this special price to celebrate 10 years in the business or something along those lines.
Anyway, being a service which requires you to travel to them and get the service done, they still required you to book it on their website and pay via debit/credit card on their website via a unique link they sent. My friend booked it and they replied back within a day or 2 with a date for which the service was booked in for. So the booking was made in August and the date for the job to be done was in November, again we both didn't think the 3 month wait was odd as on facebook it appears to show 100's of people going for this offer.
Anyway, less than 1 month has passed all of a sudden this 10 year old facebook business page was non existent, their website completely removed, instagram gone, twitter gone..etc..etc. Alarm bells ringing...
Website then updated and mentioned something about the business being sold on the 12th of September to someone called Yossif Ahmed who apparently was supposed to honour previous service sales, but apparently is not doing so.
To me all this seemed like a very thought through scam. I think 1000+ people must of taken this deal which would equate to 40k to 100k i reckon.
My friend paid with a debit card and is going to try to go via their bank to put in a dispute. But with past experience i know banks do nothing for you when using a debit card. The payment name on the bank statement is completely different to the company doing this service/works.
My question for now is:
How do you find who owns the company which is printed on the bank statement?.I have tried companies house with no luck.
