Problems with Virgin Media - anyone else? Any suggestions?

I'm having trouble with my broadband, websites are really slow at loading and often fail to load. This is the same on 6 different wireless devices. Thinking it may be the wireless I have plugged the laptop directly into the router with a network cable and disabled the wireless but it is the same.

I've been to speedtest.net and once the site has loaded (minutes to load) I get a very good speed. Ping is around 50ms. Download speed is around 29.5mbit (30 is my limit) Upload is around 1.95mbit (2mbt is my limit).

So can only think it will be a DNS issue, especially as some frequent sites seem better than less frequently used sites. I have done a ipconfig /flushdns and rebooted but it made no difference.

Anybody else with similar problems? Or any suggestions?

I've looked on the network status page of virginmedia and it says no problems although it does show an issue with TV.

Your speedtest results seem ok for your line speed. How long has the problem been going on for? Can you go to your modem page http://192.168.100.1/ click router status in the top right corner. Take a screenshot or copy and reply back with the table on the downstream and upstream page.

Yeah I've noticed this tonight as well, issues only showing with a tv box set so must be a DNS issue but I'm using a wireless device and have checked using my phone so you're not alone. Here's what I'm getting (on 30Mb)

Not today. But between about six and two weeks ago my broadband was either not working at all or crawling, or working on and off, for hours every day. They said it was a local fault and has been fixed now. However last night about 1am it started again, ugh. Getting sick of this, it's an ongoing issue. (think I come under Glasgow Renfrew for Virgin)

I'm having problems too, and there's a fair few people on Twitter mentioning it. Guess there's nothing to do until virgin media sort it out.

Sounds like a major Virgin problem - even if they're not admitting to it :(

It was a bit slow last night - gave up and went to bed. Have been at work all day - now it is awful!

Plenty of comments on twitter from what I've bothered to read looks like a nationwide server issue.

They have a generic fault message now when you ring 150 (_;)

Change your DNS to Google will help loading pages

Using Google Public DNS

I also believe that many Virgin customers will have "incorrect downstream" settings and will require a visit from a Virgin tech

Thank you for getting in touch, it sounds like you've have a frustrating time with your speeds recently. Looking at your connection I can see that your downstream power levels are too high.

Could you please advise a selection of dates when you will be available for a visit during the next 7 days.
Our engineers are available in the following timeslots: Monday to Friday - 8am-12noon, 12noon-4pm and 4pm-7pm; Saturday 8am-12noon and 12noon-4pm.

Possibly caused by either a router update or network server update that screwed up with the settings

My Virgin tech is coming Thurs morning

To be fair it has sped up a bit since posting, most sites are loading pretty quickly - not quite normal but much better.

it's probably the superhub. I've had a new super hub 2 and it is forever dying where the super hub 1 was fine. not sure what virgin will do though tbh. just to let you know you aren't alone. just stuck rebooting it when it does it.

Your power levels are fine and within range. Virgin Media fixed a DNS issue last Friday. I remember seeing an article about BT having similar issues the day after and thinking what a coincidence. People are reporting the same issue on their forums tonight
