Hi guys. Wondered if anyone can help pls....

Firstly, i hear there is going to be a new 80gb PS3 coming out soon...Does anyone know whether it will be backward compatible with ps2? If not, and there is no plans to do have one with backward compatibility anytime soon then i would be grateful if.....

..someone could direct me to a deal. I Love a good deal as i am know everyone here does...and i hate not getting the best deals! I've walked around my high street today and i am after PS3 + GTA4 + Pro evolution 2008.
So far i think the best price i can find is PS3 +GTA4 in Zavvi for £310 and then Pro Evo in Game for £29.99, totalling £339.99.

Has anyone seen a better deal than this?

Kind regards

this might be good for you if you use quidco. i got my ps3+gta bundle when it was £285 at play.com but that has ended
or if you trust littlewoods direct you could try them and use the 20% off code and 6% quidco

the US version of 80gb ps3 has ps2 backward compatibility, I'm pretty sure 80gb pal ps3 will be the same. I heard the 80gb version will come out as a bundle with Metal Gear Solid 4 and dual shock 3 controller, but I have yet to see anywhere doing this bundle...

If you really want ps2 backward compatibility you might as well wait for the 80gb version.

just did a quick bit of research, found this quote from a Sony Europe spokesperson ' There is absolutely no 80GB version of the PS3 planned for Europe in 2008'
so not sure if the 40gb is gonna be the only one for a while longer, i personally hope so as ive got two to sell and dont want the price to fall!

Check out your local Game, Gamestation if you want a 60gb one - I picked one up a few days ago for a family member £340 with a choice of 2 games and a 2 year warrenty - second hand but with a year warrenty who cares.
I'm not sure Sony will ever put the backwards compat back in to a system they have taken it out of - it was taken out as a way to reduce costs and as an initial selling point - but as BluRay has one the format war it is selling the console on that alone.
Better still get a 40gb one and a £50 PS2 - will make you a saving over all.

Hey thanks for the info. Any chance of posting the link to the source?

I already have a ps2 (which incidently i have become a "disc read error pro" now!) so....thinking about it....am i desperate to play ps2 games on a ps3?? Do they even get "upscaled"or anything? In terms of the extra HDD size, could i not use a 250gb external HDD that i use with my laptop via usb?

Game said they cant do me a bespoke deal because the deals all come from head office blah blah blah.

Im going to ring gamestation in a sec. EDIT: Gamestation doing a gta4 package for £319 plus i am legend bluray and then i would have to buy pro on top - so not the best

I quite like the one on play with 5 blurays. Could sell 5dvds for £50, then console costs £303-£50= £253 + 25.99 (Pro Evo 2008 - Choices UK) + £37.93 (Hut/Asda/Currys - GTA4) = £317
But could use codes for those shops too.....so maybe down to about £310 but with 3 games!! (Prov Evo, GTA4 and GT5 prologue)

Any other deals anywhere?

the 60gb upscaling is amazing with ps2 games. i wouldnt have them any other way, as basically youve got it coming in at a HDMI signal which looks great on an hd tv whereas the standard ps2 cable looks rather ******...
seem to be able to get the 60gbs from gamestation occasionally second hand for about £325 plus a game. bit pricey but in my opinion worth it. will try and get that link for you...

Has anyone seen anything bargainous on the ps3 front this week?

Im really keen to buy because last week I trooped up and down my high street looking for the "best/Cheapest" deal and didnt buy because I couldnt find one cheaper much than another.....then on a saturday night out i frittered away a £100, so i really want to buy one asap so then i know i definately can not fritter any more money away on vices. Thanks!
