PSN charged my wallet without consent, can I claim refund???

Just got an email to say Sony has auto renewed my PSN subscription! I am not into gaming as before so I changed the setting on my account so that they don't auto renew my account. however they still charged me, can I claim a refund?

Just logged in now and this setting I have:
Automatically Add Funds to Renew Subscriptions or Pay for Pre-ordered Content No

Can someone advice what I can do?

Contact Sony and ask the reason for the charge.

Was your wallet balance above £40 before the auto renewal? I had that automatically add funds option set to no but when my PS+ expiry came up, I still got an email about auto renewal. However, since my wallet balance was below £40, the renewal failed and it didn't auto renewal. It's odd but there doesn't seem to be an option to stop auto renewal if you have sufficient funds for it. If you click the question mark beside the auto renewal option it says

If this is set to NO, then subscriptions cannot be renewed and pre-orderers cannot be paid for if the wallet amount is less than the purchasing price
If set to YES, then funds are added to the wallet from the payments instrument on file in order to renew subscriptions or pay for pre-ordered content.

So it seems that auto renewal will still go ahead if your balance has sufficient funds. But if it doesn't then funds won't be added, which is what that option is. It's a fault on their part I think. Having an option to stop auto funding but not stopping auto renewal altogether seems absurd. It'd contact Sony and ask for a refund stating that by setting that option, you assumed it wouldn't be auto renewed at all.

Sony will be of no help although you could get real lucky. Contact bank for a chargeback but Sony have been known to ban users who do that.

I think as long as you have not used the service you should be okay in getting the refund from sony....I think.

Contact Sony and ask the reason for the charge.
Account Information > Services List > PlayStation Plus > Cancel Auto Renewal is the setting in question.

Sony explain this here: http://faq.en.playstation.com/app/answers/detail/a_id/5035/~/how-to-cancel-a-subscription

I expect that powerjumps18 hasn't changed this, hence the renewal. Regardless, contacting Sony is the way forward, agreed - they *may* be able to arrange a refund if there's been no use of the extended subscription, but I wouldn't guarantee it.

Sony are the worse company ever for giving you a refund. My mates lass sold his ps3 cause he never used it and didn't delete his psn account, the new owner bought a few games and Sony just said nope to a refund and his bank couldn't do anything either (Halifax)

Don't understand why you've been down voted. Fact is fact. I'm not a gamer but I've seen so many problems about Sony and PS I think Watchdog the BBC program has covered this topic a few times.

That Watchdog episode about how SONY responded to fraudulent purchases as "not their problem" and banning accounts and locking users out of their purchased games because of chargeback. Horrendous

Ps never give refunds for this. happened to me twice. a Google search show numerous cases of the exact same thing. shady tactics tbh and not easy at all to cancel. should ask you at redemption/payment whether to auto renew.

To be honest pretty much every company that offers subscriptions does the same thing now. I got caught out on xbox live gold a few times.

You just have to take the approach now whenever you buy these sort of subscriptions you look for that checkbox to turn off auto renewal

that's the problem though, you have to go deep into menus to find it and the wording is pretty abysmal aswell

Not PS + subscription but Sony. I bought outlast + add-on at a PS+ + offer price, they charged me the original price. After sending them pictures of how much I should of been charged etc they refunded me nearly two months later.

Nightmare

People will be Sony fan boys thinking Sony is the best company in the world, so vote me down. Fact is I've been a Sony fan since the 80's. They're a good build quality but customer service is crap and like I said they'll never refund on PSN.

I believe that when you accept new term and conditions with them it resets the setting.

You wont get a refund, for a subscription like this.

PS plus is good anyway

I called Sony found on the cancellation link from the email. I explained the situation and the lady has arranged a refund. She said it will take upto 14 days and gave a reference number. She also made sure auto renew don't happen again.
Lets see what happens and I'll keep you posted.

btw I had over £100 in my account.

any advice on how to win a refund in this? i'm in the same situation except i paid by paypal, i had no idea that purchasing a "1 Month" subscription meant Monthly payments. Its very sneaky of sony to sell their subscriptions like this with no clear sign that its on automatic renewal. I hope i have a strong case for the fact that i only authorised £5.99 into my wallet once, the rest were taken directly from my paypal account without my knowledge or consent. I subscribed in October, the 2nd. and I've just emailed them yesterday December 2nd when i realised i was being charged for PSPlus again!
