I purchased a PSP quite recently for my sons birthday today, It is modded with some custom firmware (I'm not up to scratch on PSP firmware)

However when I load any games either from the UMD drive or the memory stick the game(s) always get stuck at the loading screen.

Write "taking custom firmware off psp" in chrome and you will see youtube vids walking you through how to take off custom firmware and let it update normally. This should work just fine:)

Any advice would be greatly appreciated.

You may have to download the firmware of the playstation store or give it a old factory reboot

When you say modded is it not original software or
Is it 3rd party firmware? It could mean that the games have surpassed the old firmware , newer games won't work on old firmware sometimes especially if it's really old. You can try updating the 3rd party firmware to a later edition but you need to know what your doing or getting rid of the 3rd party firmware and just updating it with original firmware. It could be other reasons but this was the reason for me. Hope it helps a bit. Someone else may have other things you can try.

I'm not really interested in having any custom firmware to be honest, the sole reason for this purchase was just so he could play Ghostbusters, I have the UMD for that game yet it just sticks at the loading screen upon trying to play it (as does Cars 2 UMD and Open Season UMD)

I appreciate the responses guys.

Thank you, I have resolved the issue using 5.5 GEN D installer to restore the firmware to 5.50 and then update it to 6.00 :)

On a side note : Well done to the clown who down voted comment number one.

I don't think the voting system is worth the time and effort and should be removed from future site updates

Totally agree, However it should be used as a measure of useful information that aside from the 'best answer' comment, I think it's some people who aren't worth the time and effort ;)

Fancy down voting a thank you comment. oO

i never understood why there were no likes in this forum when there are in deals and misc
and why you can only upvote once but downvote multiple times
they should have a thumbs up and thumbs down option so you can see if for example a comment has 10 upvotes and 3 downvotes
best answer is a good feature, although i've seen people give it to themselves in a post where they've just acknowledged some pretty decent responses

back to original question, a bit late now, but i think 5.5 was a good version for ROMs. I bought one specifically for that reason, I wanted to play a game that was only commercially available in one country on one non-domestic system almost 2 decades ago
the firmware was already installed, i followed instructions online and eventually managed to get the game to run. it also plays normal UMDs no problem.
was your son at all interested in running ROMs, emulators etc?

No mate, his main priority.....and only priority is the Ghostbusters games, He's only 4 like, and as I had the game on UMD I just wanted the damn thing working, Was slightly embarrassed that his present didn't work on his birthday.

Cheers for the input pal.

ok cool, didn't realise so young, don't think a 4 year old will be overly fussed about running super famicom rarities etc!
glad you got it sorted in time :)
