I'm interested in buying one of their lenses for sale but they don't mention a grading or condition on any of them... Does anyone know what I should expect??

I thought about getting a lens from them unless it's brand new I would really want to check it out first before I part with my money, do they do returns at all?

It's a store 100s of miles away. There's no contact number either.

Not what you paid for....as grading is very subjective and your idea of 'v.good' might not be CEX's so I'd never personally buy something as technical as a camera lens online sight unseen, it could be fine but it could open up a whole heap of trouble as CEX are notorious for not wanting to give refunds so....

Which store is it as someone here might live nearby and go and have a look for you....you never know....Xmas spirit and all that....

They're even ignoring my twitter question and I emailed Monday with no reply, guess that tells me all I need to know..

Unfortunately some CEX's are better than others depending on staff and if they are Franchises or Corporate and looks like you've hit a bad one.

I've purchased the following lenses and equipment, some sight unseen: -
Nikon Micro Nikkor AF-S 40mm 2.8
Nikon AF-S 18-200mm VR
Nikon AF D 50mm 1.8
Nikon 16-85mm AF-S VR
Nikon AF-S 18-55mm VR + D3100
2 x Nikon SB-700 Speedlights
1 x Nikon SB400 Speedlight
Nikon D7000 Body Only
Tamron 90mm Macro I think it was
Sigma 70-300mm 3.5-5.6

The Tamron went back, lens jammed up. D7000 benefited from a self CCD clean with £12 kit from Amazon. D3100 I bounced off the ground after 18months of ownership. SB400 was replaced with SB700 for more power, sold it on. Second SB 700 was also sold on as I didn't use it much. Sigma 70-300 wasn't being used and I preferred the 18-200 Nikon for convenience.

It is hit or miss but for the most part they are good nick. Some were fully boxed, some were lens only. Nikon stuff tends to be boxed. I'd say it's worth a punt as long as you aren't desperate for the cash should you need to send it back. Always do recorded returns and track them if required.

The one I'm interested in is just over £100 and about £30 cheaper than ebay. I've no problem with funds I just don't want hassle.

If it's a commonly recommended lens for most people then anyone could have owned and cared for it. If it's a less commonly bought lens like say a Macro lens then odds on its been cared for and worth a try.
Also it depends on the brand and body type it suits, many people buying the micro format cameras are less likely to buy more lenses so it's a keen previous owner with lens respect.

Of course it could be a well heeled ape and it's in a state. Odds on body could be scratched, lenses will be scratch free but it could have dust ingress, fungus should be absent though.

I would be wary of anything that doesn't have a grading system in place. If buying from CEX I buy A grade and if its not graded/A Grade I'd want to look at it.
Have you looked on Facebook to see if that particular store has a page? I've contacted a few CEX stores via Facebook recently, some are really good at responding, other stores don't really keep up/check it. You may get lucky though and it may be an active page. They may be willing to take pictures of it as well.
I take it though, they only have the one lens in stock? As if there's more than 1 in stock, it could come from any store.

If it's that much cheaper than eBay I'd expect the reason would be the condition.
eBay is generally great for good value grade A lenses (on the other hand it, buying from an authorised dealer means you lose a lot the moment you 'drive it off the lot').
As an example, picked up a mint £900 lens for £515.

I've gone and purchased it now, was the only one in stock. I'll cross my fingers it's ok. Should find out tomorrow. This was the lens LINK

Yeah, definitely not the X model! Could be a genuine mistake but I doubt I'll find out. Just hope I'll get refunded in full. Paid via Paypal.

I noticed when you posted the link for the one you were getting, it was out of stock - I assumed it was because you'd ordered the last one.
For the most part, CEX are alright but, they make quite a few mistakes too. I once took a 32GB iPad in and a Dual Shock 3 PS3 controller and an unlocked phone, I was told the phone was locked to Three - Id been using a T-Mobile sim in it, I was told the iPad was 16GB, despite it saying 32GB on the back and the controller, I was told was the first model PS3 controller so was £3 less. That I couldnt prove what I'd taken in. Only after when I realised thats what the guy had written it down as when I went in before testing, it was just the new tester that had who was completely useless.
Also more recently, same store as it happens, there were two red Surface touch covers in stock, one at the localish store and one miles away, the local one has an active Facebook page so I asked if they could put it aside for me, they couldnt find it. Turns out it was a black one and had been marked wrong :|. Didnt realise until now that it was the same store that I had the issues with. Only store I have had issues with though to be fair but, it could have been marked down as the wrong lens so thats what was sent out when the store were asked to send it out.
Paypal will have your back though so I wouldn't worry too much about it :).

I did order the last one. Sounds like they make too many mistakes.. I just want a refund now and hope they don't put it back online as the wrong lens again!
