Not sure but I think it's something to do with taxes.

The Ebuyer one is OK depending on what's important to you.
For example, It can't resume a DVD after the player has been in standby but it will resume if you just stop the DVD without switching the player off.

Playing Xvid files is fine from disc, USB pendrive and external hard drive but when playing mpegs (mpeg, mpv, vob) the counter counts too fast, both picture and sound are sometimes jerky plus trying to FF or RW usually puts you back to the start of the video. It does play DVD movies fine though

I have no experience of the Philips so can't really say if it's worth the extra £20.... maybe?

well i'd be plugging in a 250gb external hardrive formatted to FAT32.

i dont mind about it not resuming after the players been switched off..

whats that you say about fast forwarding or rewinding? so i wouldnt be able to fast forward to say half way through an episode of 24?

btw the buyer one is only about £15 cheaper.

Only if it's an mpeg - if it's an Xvid/DivX then you should have no problem fast fowarding and rewinding. There's also a "GOTO" button so you can key in the time you want to play from.

Ahh yeah, I forgot about P&P

Us technology export laws actually.. something to do with counter terrorism measures. Not exactly smart but hey not something that can be changed.

I've just ordered the ebuyer machine.

All i needed was a divx player,

would be interesting to see how good this upscaling lark is, Just got a HD TV, but all the current content looks pants!!!

also - very nice that you can use external hard drives, I've got a spare 320gb which will be a nice present for the family :P

well i've got just over an hour to decide.... i think i may just buy the philips one off amazon in a few weeks
#10
well seems i have another night to decide, possibly even more.

i have the philips and i cant fault it.

I have a Western Digital 500GB External Hardrive. Can this be plugged in and play films straight off it, or am i being dim.

Mine plays from an external drive.

I formatted a partition of my external drive to FAT32 and made it Primary.

Also worth pointing out that the drive is running off it's own power supply.

Both the ones I tried are externally powered.

How do you make it primary? I just want to leave a dedicated drive next to it, so should I reformat it even though its already FAT32?

That should be fine then.

I don't think you'll need to reformat it.

I used a programme called Acronis Disk Director to make it primary. I don't know what OS you're using or what software you've got available to you so not really sure what to advise
(I'm no expert on these things :?)

Good luck!
