My son will have his 9th birthday on 25th December, and so we are prepared to spend up to about 100.00. Any advice on spec. and availability etc, would be really gratefully recieved (time being a bit thin on the ground! )

If you wanted a proper R/C you want to look along the lines of the "dragonfly" series model which is popular and i believe to be quite good. But have to be careful as some will not come with the controller/transmitter generally the higher value ones.

For a toy style one you will pay around £20 pounds and it good for just a play about. Cant remember the name of them bummble bee or something like that
It's a start anyway, thanks for your input... looks like i'm off to do some surfing...:santa:
for a "real" R/C heli you'd be looking to pay 300-700+ this would be for the complete setup.. and this mightnt be suitable for a 9yr old.. these use a fuel mixture and could easily lop off a limb.

There was a Syma (Fly Dragonfly 2005) model on HUKD from ARIA I think.. circa 25quid, up and down basic toy which IMHO would be ok for a 9yr old..Its painful if it hits an adult arm but not lethal..
me and my son got this one http://www.aria.co.uk/productinfocomm.asp?id=19043 they r very good fun . if you go to the site tou can see it in action
