Howdy peeps,

Like many others b4 me... im after an R4 for my daughters DSLite. Im looking at getting her the maximum memory card that they can take with it also. Any1 got any good tips now weeks have past since people have ordered as to who is a good company to deal with ? Ive looked through previous posts and most seem to be out of the US... is that the only way to go ?? Out of all of them im thinking of ringing supercardstore over the next week.

With the help side of things, and from what ive been reading up, can some1 confirm the following please:

Its better to use a Kingston flash card for compatibility ? Will an R4 take up to a 4gig card or only 2gig? Can i also use the R4 in a standard DS or is it only lite compatible ? If the last one means only lite will the 'multiplayer without original' work between consoles on homebrew? Will the R4 come with all the stuff i need to hook it up to the PC for rom transfer ?

Any got any tips id be forever grateful :-) TIA guys !

Ive not ordered an r4 from them but model-gadget.com are reliable they had excellent comms and really quick delivery. I think they are out of stock of r4 but they do the m3 simply which is almost identical and made by the same company i was told.

Another company which has had good reviews is supercardstore as you have said. Consoleup.com are also supposed to be quite reputable and had good reviews although i have never used them before. All of these are UK based i think.

Kingston flash i guess would be better in terms of readin speed when transferring speeds but to be honest i have used several cards with my ds and they all seem to work fine in terms of compatibility but im not sure on that one.

As far as i am aware, the r4 does not support microsd cards over 2 gig due to the format of the cards or something to do with sdhc protocol being used with cards larger than 2 gig and this protocol is not supported by an r4 but maybe somone can back me up on that.

An r4 will work on both the ds and ds lite

The r4 will come with everything you need to connect to the pc although some people do nolt like the micro sd card reader but it still works. It even comes with a cd but the cds are usually outdated and you can get the latest software from the r4 website i think

The faq section there may be handy also

Many thanx for taking the time to help nipperkipper... rep added :-)

I'm pretty sure theres a new firmware update which allows 4gb Micro SDs to be used, I read it somewhere anyway. Its easy to transfer files, just drag and drop :)

I have recently purchased the R4 DS, I got mine from Amazon for £27 delivered although the price has now increased to "from £30.99".

Mine also only took three day to be delivered, it`s a fantastic bit of kit, I am using a 2gb memory card which is currently holding 56 games...

Hi, cuzzy was that from amazon or the market place? i have a voucher for amazon but cant be used on market place

Didnt realise Amazon done them. So the option of a genuine kingston 2gig card for an extra £18 isnt bad either ? I know you can get em cheaper, but for the sake of a couple of quid its guaranteed to work.

I would thoroughly recommend these people for the R4DS.

£32 with a 2GB card - or £16 without a microSD card.

Unfortunately at the mo - they've sold out (Not too helpful - but they regularly have them in stock.)

Yes, they are based in Hong Kong, but they are reliable and trustworthy.

Damn... are any in stock atm lol :-) Seems to be a global shortage.

Amazon? :whistling:
#14
yeah seems to be the only place atm that has any stock. Comes in at £32.90 delivered without an sdcard. If i cant find anywhere else by monday ill have to order from there i think.

contacted deal extreme and this is the response

"We are sorry that R4 is unstable in stock this time, so we also unstable to fulfil the orders, once we have it, we send it, sorry for this inconveniences, if you don't mind waitting for it, then I think you can try to place your order once we mark it as available, so please stay tuned"

So heres to hoping

Just one other question guys. Does it matter with these about getting a normal, premier or ultra version of an sdcard ? May be a stupid question but i dont yet know anything about how they work as such, can it make any difference ?

As far as i am aware there is no difference when playing games, listening music, but im guessing they have to be premier or ultra for a reason.

I use a normal sd card and have never had a problem or experienced any lag or anything but maybe someone else might know

Also consoleup have a restock scheduled for 27th august and they are quite reputable as members have said, so you might want to give them an email. Its 22.99+ delivery on the website without an sd card but you can pick one up cheap for about 6-7 pounds so you will be saving money on the amazon deal. It may be worthwhile to wait a few days so you can save close to 8-9 pounds

P.s forgot to add that consoleup also accept paypal for added peace of mind
#19
They do look like a decent option nipperkipper... plus with the money id save over amazon i could go for something like this Sandisk 4gb

Any thoughts ? Ive read a couple of times now that the latest firmware supports 4gig... do i chance it on £28 bucks though hehe :-?
#20
R4 doesn't support HCSD - which it was 90% of 4gb cards are. It is a hardware limitation not a firmware issue.
#21
dont buy from consoleup as some people over at av forums have been having problems with them.
http://www.gameyeeeah.com/ is supposed to be reliable according to people at avforums
#22
could u link me to the avforums one?

im having problems with console up too

they sent me one which i believe was faulty and when i asked to return it i was told to send it to some different address

so ive sent it now and they have recieved it (recorded) but no sign of replacement and its been 2 weeks

also u cant contact the ******s except via a ticket system which is bloody annoying lol
#23
In that case i suppose consoleup are not the best choice, its just a few people gave them good reviews but it does seem people have been having problems and jeez they seem to have ticked off a lot of people

Muffin247 here is a link i have found after searching, not sure if it was the one mentioned but there are complaints about consoleup, hope this helps you

http://www.avforums.com/forums/showthread.php?p=5342072

Model-gadget however seem to get good reviews here and i have used them and they were spot on. They have several email addresses to contact them on, i hate ticketing systems

It might be worth emailing them to find out when they are going to get r4 ds back in stock, or if not maybe get an m3 as they are almost identical with the same functions.

Regarding the 4gb sd i would not chance it as 2gb is a lot of space and you could store more than enough games/music
#24
nice one looks like i been done over like alot of people

why dont reputable pc companies sell the r4

would be a damn lot easier than these never heard of companys
#25
Yeah i know, its the same with all "advanced" console accessories, they are sold by lesser known companies that few know of

seems a good price also, taking into consideration the 2 dollar to a pound conversion.

Does anyone know how much shipping is?
#28
whats the diffrence from a super card n r4?
#29
I bought both my M3's from Model-gadget and had no problems with them. I've now flashed my m3 to R4 firmware as the M3 doesn't support download play.

That would be because Nintendo would refuse to deal with any company stocking them - so that rules out a lot of retailers.

Well guys ive just put in my order with supercardstore. They have just taking new stock this weekend and have assured me its in the post tomorrow. The guy was very very helpful, even took my call on a Sunday which is brilliant and gave me his home number. I got a 2gig Toshiba sd card off him aswell and he explained that the Tosh is the way to go over the sandisk as its slightly faster and slightly more compatible - no jerky video issues with the Tosh and they are genuine Jap ones also (i do believe him coz its only 50p more not a couple of quid he was after and he knows his stuff)

Now i dont usually praise many people hehe... but this guy is more than worth the money. Hes based in the London not HK or the USA, he is a very nice and very easy going man that really wants to help you if you have no knowledge, his prices are reasonable, he said that any problems or support needed once i get the cards he would more than help, he offered me money back guarantee if im not happy... phew just go with this guy if you have any sense. Short of getting the cards Tues/Weds due to bank holiday i can thoroughly recommend at this time. Amazing service and helpfulness. A++

Yea he is really good and helpful I used it as my first site but I dont fancy paying 2x the price for this. What did you purchase and how much did you pay?
#35
£27 for the R4 and £15 for the sd. Yeah i know its more expensive than getting it imported... but for the sake of a couple of quid id sooner have the piece of mind in knowing its gonna arrive and i get get any support needed.
#36
****ing thieves.
#37
Why?? Amazon was £4 dearer for the R4 + 2gigSD. And this guy has stock... its ok saying you can get it cheaper here etc etc, but nowhere has stock atm if you look.
#38
No, because the device is used to steal intellectual property of people within the games industry.

Let me guess, you all use it as a media player. Pfft.
#39
ROFL i thought u meant supercardstore hahaha :-D

Oh gawd here we go... the do-gooders have highjacked the thread !!!

Duck and cover, duck and cover !!
