Race For Life: Sponsor Request

I am proud to be participating in the 2010 Race For Life charity run in Torquay, Devon on 16th May. Sadly my sister and myself lost our Dad to cancer last November. If you could donate as little as £1 this would help me reach a considerable sum for Cancer Research UK as sadly it will sometime in our lives, affect us all.

My personal sponsor account is:
http://www.raceforlifesponsorme.org/tanyailes

By sponsoring through this account it means that money isnt handled by myself. All money raised goes straight to Cancer Research UK. This account just shows me how much I have raised. Thankyou

Sorry, do not support Cancer Research UK, don't know how they can call themselves a charity.

I'm sorry however for the loss of your dad and hope that the race goes well for you. I did it a few years ago and it was a thoroughly emotional day but very fun.

I try to help as many charities as I can..
Child line is one I monthly donate to, via Standing order also the PDSA and the Blind.

We need as much money as we can for research as in every family someone will be affected sadly.
Well done for doing your bit.

I like those charities too, and guide dogs when I can.

I completely agree with you, we do need as much money for research as we can which is why I distinctly dislike Cancer Research.

There have been a few on here lately requesting sponsorship.

Good luck with your race but I prefer to sponsor people I know.

Sorry to hijack OP's post...could I be cheeky and ask why you made that statement? Have always supported Cancer Research and actually wanted to run the RFL this year but then I heard they were involved with a sort of hard-sell telesales company (that THEY pay to do the job) and I was appalled! Just wondered if there was something else I missed?

My Dad was diagnosed with cancer of the larynx in 2008 and had to have a laryngectomy last year so I'm all for research but that story has seriously put me off supporting them now or in the future.

OP - good look with your Race, send it to everyone in your email address book - you might be surpised how many friends/relatives who'd like to help you out :)

when we called to register we had to pay £12.99 admin fee and also they kept pushing us asking how much we expected to raise and they were trying to give us a target a bit pushy on the phone in the end we didnt register as my sister was quite taken aback with it all.

+1 cancer research are far to commercialised now. I lost my father to cancer just before xmas and will do anything i can to support macmillan nurses thanks to the wonderful care they provided both to my dad and the rest of the family.

My wife also had the hard sell from Cancer research even though she was a victim of cervical cancer when she wanted to raise money for an event, quite shocked so in the end we donate to Jo's Trust.
Shame really.

I always support Macmillan and Marie Curies nurses altho' have only had experience of the Macmillan nurses but interesting that others have fallen victim to Cancer Reasearch's hard-sell tactics. Such a shame that they've spoilt it for themselves.
