In a nutshell... don't do this as you can seriously screw up your card by flashing another card bios. If you want to tweak it then test it out with afterburner.

Obviously it's your choice but there a high risk of your GPU not working correctly again...

I did this years ago on a 6870 , a ref design , and somebody had ripped the bios from a different faster card (a 6870 tho) and it did make it run faster, but it also ran hotter n louder . It worked fine for years , but it was the exact same internals, just different fans ..
I also did it when the 6870 was well past its heyday ...
I wonder if NV will (or some hacker) be able to unlock the 3gb 1060 to same cu/shaders as the 6gb 1060?

Doubt you'll be able to unlock the 3gb to 6gb unless they physically included the memory on the card.

Flashing a 480 to 580 if you don't know what you're doing is the easiest way to end up with a non functional card.

Besides it's a 3% performance difference for a 30% increase in power consumption. Not worth it.
