Been asked by my brother (who's an architect) to find him a Laptop with a high spec but as cheap as it is possible to get hold off.

I'm having trouble finding something. He says he's priced up some specs on Dell and at Alienware but he's not told me how much yet.

Sooo, What he's after is..
[FONT=Arial][SIZE=2][COLOR=#000000]
Dual Core - either Intel or AMD 64 around 2.2-2.4ghz
17" Screen
2gb RAM
256 mb Graphics (preferably nvidia - unless you know of any better ones) Im also looking at 512mb to see how it compares
120gb HDD
DVD RW
USB
Wireless

So, where do you go to find something like that?! lol

@gd_miester - My brother was advised by someone at his work place to avoid Rock computers because the casing on them was shoddy. He used it day in day out for a month and the casing began to crack.

@rayman - Thats the laptop my brother has been looking at on Dell, but with the 2.16GHz option so that puts the price up a bit.

@steffcip - The video card he needs is for his architecture work for programs like Revit etc.. So he needs one that's gonna handle a lot of detail thrown at it.

@sbear1 - weight I dont think is much of an issue, but it needs to be easily portable etc. As for the Sony laptop that sounds just like what he wants, Price isn't much of an issue as he was looking at one from alienware for £2k and the only thing dual core on it was the graphics card!

@ms01ma - I'll have a look, ta.

Fujitsu-Siemens Xi1546 is worth considering

http://www.nice-pc.co.uk/newsite/acatalog/performance_laptops.html

Occasionally, buyit247 get them as Grade 2 machines, saving another 200-300 quid.
None on the stock list at the moment, though...

D820 isn't suitable as its graphics card is a low performance model - the only suitable Dell models are the XPS M1710 and its Precision brother the M90.

Perhaps you ought to let Dell know then...

I can only offer the information they give on their wab pages.

That Latitude model seems ideal.

Far more robust than any of their Inspiron counterparts too :)
