no unless you question the validity of the equipment and its found to be inaccurate. you could do a pleading letter re the impact of points previous good record etc but unlikely to change but nothing to loose i guess

Wow take it as a lesson :(

I read this as 43mph in a 40mph zone and thought a little harsh!

43mph in a 30mph is massively excessive (>40% faster). They will have a stock answer for anybody who challenges the validity of the equipment - if they think it is inaccurate, they wouldn't use it in the first place. Basically no way to avoid the points.

P.S. A notice of intended prosecution? Don't they just give you the points these days via the post if you accept?

Looks like I have to fill in the points and send them back.. then they will issue whether to go to a course or issue the points, the threshold for course is 42 mph inclusive, I am caught at 43...
#6
They have to draw the line somewhere, and in my opinion you deserve the points and more for driving that fast in a 30.
#7
Technically, you were doing around 643 mph in a 30 zone, due to the spin of the Earth :D

Was gonna say you're unlucky Ashok, but I've noticed myself innately driving above 40 on streets is always asking for trouble so I always drive around 30 and your difficult lesson should now surely force you to change bad habits before even worse happens?

Thanks, I admit this is a mistake and I believe I seeded because I am trying to pull the car to the side as I received a phone call. do you think attaching a attach a pleading letter stating this reason will help?

Saying that you were speeding as you were distracted by your phone may not be the best approach.

I understand, But when a phone rings you obviously get distracted for a bit, Ok if the genuine reason will not work what you think I should say?
#12
You could try "sneezing, is an involuntary action and your foot hit the accelerator pedal when you sneezed", I know speeding is wrong and I wasn't doing 43 until i sneezed. Please can i do the course as it was sneezing that took me over the max limit.

Nothing. You were speeding. Take the points and let it be a lesson learnt!

haha.. Awesome.. but this gives more negative signals I believe (no control on your body)...I think I may be better off to say the original reason as I am trying to pull to a side when received a phone call.

If your were going to stop to take a call you would have been slowing down. Were you doing 50mph before! oO

It's ok we all do it. I did 37 in a 30 (on a restricted dual carriageway) and 94 on the motorway (it was 2am on a Sunday morning).
Speed awareness for the first one. 3 points and £100 for the second.

Man up and take the points.

So were you doing 30 before the phone started ringing?

Something along the lines of

"I'm really sorry that I broke the speed limit and feel so ashamed that my actions could easily have killed a child. I have since been home, discussed it with fellow HUKD members and it has slowly but surely sunk in that I have indeed been very selfish in trying to wriggle out of receiving what is rightfully mine.....ie. points on my licence and/or a hefty fine. I will duly take the points and pay the fine. I promise to be a safer driver next time. "

That should do it.

A few mph over might get you some sympathy but 43mph in a 30 is taking the biscuit, please slow down and turn your mobile off or put it on silent so that you're not distracted. Keep your eyes on the road.

Given car speedo's are inaccurate and over read, you probably had nearer 50mph showing on your speedo, personally I think you're getting off lightly, amongst other things....

So your saying you were doing 30, your phone rang which distracted you so you sped up to slow down and answer it?
Yes, tell them that. I hope they ban you for being mental.

If someone is hit by a car at 40 mph they are 90% likely to be killed.
If someone is hit by a car at 30 mph they are 50% likely to be killed.
If someone is hit by a car at 20 mph they are 10% likely to be killed.

Yeah, I was also reading that with some confusion. You can bet your bottom that his eyes were on the phone as well when it rang.
So showing a 45+ on your speedo in a 30 zone? Deserve all you get mate, you do realise you are driving a lethal weapon? Slow down and watch the road, you would easily kill a kid a that speed.

This sort of posts can only be added to increase traffic / engagement on this website? Surely nobody in their right mind would seriously post a question like that and expect sympathy / sensible answers?

Some of the questions in the 'Ask' section really make me question the general intelligence and morality of our population.

So you know where on earth the OP was driving and in which direction ?

You didn't mention the speed of the the earth around the sun (approx 69,360 MPH) or the speed of the sun within our galaxy (a mere 570,00 MPH) and of our galaxy from the centre of the universe , around 1,340,000 MPH It's enough to make the average speed camera go dizzy. :)

I agree. Just the other day someone asked what the best way to listen to music whilst swimming would be. Pretty obvious I'd have thought.

No, but there's plenty that when caught don't try and wriggle out of it, and instead cough up and learn a lesson.

Yes we all speed on some occasions but none of us would come on a forum and ask for help to get out of it if we were close to 50% over the speed limit and then again most people wouldn't think it's ok to drive that much over the speed limit or try picking up your phone and speeding. Just yesterday there was the story of a family wiped out by muppet lorry driver on their phone. If you are distracted that easily you deserve to lose your licence, points just aren't enough.

I remember around 5 and a half years ago, I got a letter because I was caught doing 27 in a school 20 zone. I'd only been driving a few months at that point...

Before everyone all hostile on me, it was one of those sections on a main road that has a sign at two points before and after the school. I was caught by police with speed guns. The road is usually a 30 and schools weren't out, and the signs weren't active at the time, so unless it turned on just after I passed it, they were trying to pull a fast one... (excuse the pun)

I don't know it as fact but I'd guess that not every member drives....

I jest, I get your point, every driver at some point will creep over the limit regardless of how carefully the watch the speedo, BUT 43 in a 30 isn't just creeping over the limit, as an earlier poster pointed out, theres a good chance the OPs speedo was showing nearer 50, that IMO is out of order and deserves punishment.

OP, take it on the chin, take the punishment and slow down in future.

This is exactly why I have my speed limiter set to 30mph. As soon as I go over, it will beep at me.

The OP says he "think(s) I am drinking too much"

& why the hell did you even seek that information out? Weird or what?
