Hi. Sent a letter recorded delivery. But looking at the royal mail tracker it still has not been delivered. Posted it end of March. Now middle of April. What can i do about it? Can i get compensation? What about the inconvenience caused of letter not being delivered. Any advice will be appreciated. Thanks in advance.

From selling stuff on ebay I've had that occur several times. imho it's a waste of money sending things recorded delivery as quite often they get delivered without a signature being asked for.

Contact RM. Compo for items up to £50 with reasonable proof of value. Documents are typically rated at paper value, say £zero. No consequential loss (nor "inconvenience" cover) is provided by RM Signed For service; consider other services if such cover is required.

There's no such thing as Recorded Delivery anymore, it's either Signed For or Special Delivery.

Signed for gets you upto £50 compensation depending on the market value of whatever you were sending plus a postage refund. If you can't prove the value of what you were sending then it's 6 X 1st class stamps as a minimum.

Special Delivery covers up to £750

There's no compensation for consequential loss, so nothing for the inconvenience.

If it's a legal document and you have proof of postage (formal RM receipt stating date, recipient address and postage paid) the legal system will interpret the letter as having been delivered within effectively max three days

It sounds like recipient wasn't at home and by the looks of it haven't gone to local depot to collect it. To me failed delivery intimates it was out for delivery and attempt wasn't successful. RM will hold it for 18 calendar days before returning to Sender. If your address isn't on the package it will go to national returns centre in Belfast to see if they can identify you the sender. Can you contact recipient to ask them if it's waiting for collection?

Same thing has happened to me, I had to put in an online claims form last night for something I paid for, Recorded delivery first class, that has not been delivered/lost. So had to upload receipts from the post office proving where I posted it and then a picture of what I sent the item in. The online form was pretty easy to fill in and they tell you what items you need to go with your claims form

Have you asked the recipient if they have had it delivered?

When i put in the tracking number on the royal mail tracker. It shows its only been collected from the post office i sent it from. No other locations are showing. Usually it lists where the item has come from, where it has been and finally when it is delivered.
