I want to get my five year old boy a remote control car for Christmas.

Any advice on a good one to get? I'm asking because his older sister had a couple of remote control things over the years, and they never lasted long.

The usual problem was that the cheap ones ate batteries at a stupid rate, and were too much hassle to keep charging AA batteries for etc. Or they broke after slamming into a few walls.

So I'm after something that comes with a charger that you just plug into the side.

I've seen a few that bounce off walls and flip over etc. Just worried how much control my son will earn though from that and what state the skirting boards will be in after a few goes!

Any thoughts / recommendations would be gratefully received.

Thanks

Following with interest. My 3 year old found my old petrol car a few weeks back but there is no way he's getting near that. Even my old battery one is too fast in first gear for him although he thinks it's hilarious.

Have you got a model shop near anywhere? There used to be two styles of controls for Kids RC cars. The trigger and steering wheel which is difficult to get used too or the double stick (up\down and left\right).

Turbo Twister, bought two from Hamleys for my 6 & 10 yr old. You can buy the charger as well or just use batteries (lastest a long time). Really good remote car, flashes, twist and turns and is really sturdy as they can be bashed about quite a bit :)

This one is really 'younger kid friendly'

seen it cheaper in toys r us/smyths. Sometimes £30. For the age you mentioned I'd give that a go. Nice and indestructible too.

Give this tyco one a look for that age. Smyths and toys r us do it for abit cheaper too, around thirty quid sometimes.
