Hi,

I'm after a new desktop PC after a post I have previously posted confirmed that my current one is very old now as it cannot play smoothly mkv files etc. Also, my new HD camcorder clips wont play on it due to its speed.

My requirements are a limit maximum spend of £300, give or take a little bit. I only need the desktop as i have a 21 inch monitor, as well as the obvious mouse and keyboard. I've a DVD writer in my current thats pretty modern, but i dont mind buying one whihc has a newer one of these.

Advice etc on this and links to where is the best around for prices at the moment would be really welcome. I would be willing to accept an ex-display or refrub too.

Had a quick look around myself, but nothing springs out as a great deal, plus with my new born baby - my time to surf is limited, but i want to burn clips of litle William on disc to send to Grandparents etc asap.

Thanks in advance,

If you want to play 1080i/p mkv files you are going to need at least a 2.4ghz cpu, preferably dual core, and a graphics card with dedicated memory.

This looks like the ticket :

you can add a dedicated graphics card later (you could puck one up for £25 that would suffice) if you have problems with mkv playback.

Thanks.

What sort of graphics card would you suggest pls for this machine?

Also - from the link it would look like some people are saying to put in extra RAM, is this worthwhile for what i need it for, or just a bonus.

Hi
2 gig would be OK or 3 gig if you can afford it. As for a graphics card an ATI 4350 with 512 meg would be fine you can find these for around £20 to £25.
Dell sell these but they are way too expensive.
