Have you had a look at Three? They have a "Feel at Home" incentive where you can use your data in certain countries (including Spain) at no extra cost.

I am not sure about your usage needs, but I would suggest the best option is getting a 24gb PAYG sim from three, which amazon stocks. This has feel at home, meaning you can use all the data allowance in spain and it lasts for 2 years or until the data runs out.

Three don't let you use the sim as a mobile hotspot abroad, but there are ways around it...

It's heavily throttled. You'd be better looking at a local sim. Feel at home has been abysmal for me on the two occasions I've used it in Spain.

Yes you only get 3g speeds when using the sim abroad as opposed to 4g in the UK. Again depends on your needs, as this would be find for browsing and emails, but you would struggle to stream videos etc. The other option is a local sim for 4g, but I doubt you would get a deal like three's (e.g. £1 per GB)

I'd more than agree if I got those speeds. But no matter which of the networks I roamed onto I had poor speeds, unable to stream radio, spotify etc. Whatsapp picture messages taking an age/failing to send. All basic web related tasks struggled. I know of people who have had similar experience, but then I do know of some people that only speak positive of the service. Three themselves admit to throttling data abroad, you can get by it by using a VPN apparently.

I suffered similar experience in the states with the service. Voice and text in both countries I can't fault, but data wise I had a mare.

Yeah great for me too. used it to watch Netflix in usa

Vodafone offer free roaming in Spain, might get a more usable 4g signal here rather than using 3 as well.
