If you are going to do a LOT of walking with it then a badly fitted rucksack can be as bad as badly fitting shoes.

Go to a decent shop where thay can "measure" you for a rucksack and you can talk to the person working there about pros and cons of diffeerent types.

My teenage son was going on a long hike so we went to a shop caled "Go outdoors" and the person we spoke to gave us all sorts of advice about things to consider in a rucksack that we had never thought of.

Go Outdoors tend to be on large retail parks and usually have very low prices (on quality stuff).

On the Aldi one, I note this one says "showerproof" cover. Well showerproof is not the same as waterproof.

Get a heavy downpour and your rucksack contents could be soaked.

Good advice. Ive just bought a rucksack but its really heavy even without anything in. Anyone know if it its possible to get a good, reasonable capacity but lightweight one?

I bought 2 ruck sacks from Aldi in Germany in 2001, 75+10L i think (they were very big, i did look about for similar in other shops back here but they were well over £150+), cant remember the price(less than £50), but they were fantastic value for money.
We went to south america with them.
I used those flourescent yellow cable ties (from Maplins) to secure the ruck sack buckes (2 per buckle/zipper).
I cut them down to length and used a pen knife to release and reuse them, didnt run out of ties on the trip and didnt have any problems with airports or armed milatary checkpoints in Peru & Bolivia.

All the Security Guards (Police/Army/Customs) all took one look at all the yellow ties on our rucksacks and considered they wernt worth the hassel of messing about (as they were clearly more than secure from tampering with) and passed onto the next guys rucksack which was secured with one of those mickey mouse wire netting security things, they searched his with a toothcomb... looking for drugs or prohibited goods.

Ours were very well constructed, comfortable and got though 2 months traveling without any issues and are still in use today, mostly for carrying the shopping home in.

If you can find a really big (75L+10) rucksack at Aldi i'd definatly recomend snapping one up.
especially the ones with lots of extra pockets on the back and sides.
