Running Kodi on Amazon Firestick vs Google Chromecast

I'm trying to decide between getting an Amazon Firestick or a Google Chromecast to run Kodi. Both look equally doable, but wondering how Kodi runs on each? Is one better than the other for streaming via Kodi?

Can KODI even run on a chromecast?

Or do you mean cast it from a KODI device to the chromecast?

yeah sorry, should have clarified - streaming from android device to chromecast. chromecast is obviously cheaper, but firestick has it onboard

The firestick has a lovely remote, obviously it will be a similar experience but one will be streaming off the firestick and the other casting.

So i guess it depends if you would prefer to have a dedicated device for a little more or use your tablet/phone as a remote and casting device.

The outcome will be very similar.

I first bought a Chromecast to try Kodi and watch my Netflix etc. I had to use a device to stream to the cast. I have recently bought a fire stick. This is far better as it uses the apps without the need for another device (cast ran my phone battery down). So for Kodi you are better off with Fire Stick. Oh and you have remote with the Fire Stick.

Chromecast is crap. I have one laying next to my TV as it was replaced with the fire stick

Also there is no way you can stream kodi to chromecast to my knowledge

Fire tv box all the way.

Neither, chromecast can't do it and there are better, cheaper and easier devices than Amazons that will run Kodi properly.

Hey dcx, bit out of the loop nowadays, what's the best of the cheapies that are kicking around now? Looking for one for my daughter's room.

I'm not bothered about all these streaming addons people seem to use, just for streaming from my server

Cheers bud

I stream media library to chromecast but not through kodi. I just browse to my network location using "ES File Explorer" android app and when I click a file to play I use Yatse (awesome kodi remote app) option of "Play on network media player" and it sees my chromecast. Works well but I noticed that it won't play my old mpgs but works fine on mkv files.

I like my chromcast. I've downloaded kodi. Added my fusion. Added genesis. Add my player core file on es explorer and it works like a charm. Only problem is I can't view live tv. Only movies and TV programs already recorded. I stream it right to my tv with local cast. I've had no problem with the battery life.

I currently have a chromecast with Kodi on my Android phone and run into the issue of the chromecast not streaming all the different video formats that are found within Kodi. ie with chromecast you are limited to certain formats unless you are casting from a computer which i am not.

I've heard the fire stick plays any format as it's running kodi directly.

Yes there is. If you have google cast app on phone in settings select cast video audio. Then on your phone open up kodi and it will appear on tv screen. funnily enough I thought fire stick made my chromecast redundent but now use both for different rooms

Kodi is no longer available on iOS device unless you use jap app and change language to English but that doesn't always compute either. As for local cast used to be good but failing bad now so I'm working on an app that will download to iOS and use direct on any device with speech built in like amazon remote this will all be free will release on dark side rpg when ready to go live testing .. peace out k8ppa ✌
