Hey everybody, just needing to buy a phone very soon for a number of reasons and really not sure which one to get. Probably £200 is the limit and I really want to get something with android 2.2 on, so is the san francisco definately the right choice? And also how long does it take to unlock, as I need it for o2 and I need it fast!

Thanks a lot

I'm going motorola defy-but I just broke my last phone's screen (lg gt540, what a piece of crap) and I don't want to fool about again. Without a doubt San Francisco is best under 100 quid- but they are releasing the ZTE skate with a 4.x screen, so you might want to hold off a tick.

It's a great phone, but doesn't support flash. So depends what you want it for...

thanks for the replies, when you say it does not support flash, what does this actualy entail? Like are there many live apps (such as live scores etc) that will not work on it?

oh and is the motorola defy meant to be realy good then? Do you know if it comes installed with 2.2 or you have to do it youself?

Depends if you want to buy brand new or willing to take a risk and buy slightly used ones. For brand new the San Fran is defonately best for sub £100 - for £150-£200 brand new you could consider LG Optimus One, new Samsung Galaxy Ace.
If willing to take risk and buy almost new you should be able to pick up a HTC Desire or Samsung Galaxy S for about £200.

Hey stuart, thanks for the email. Really really random but I remembered a new LG running 2.2 and checked on the search and saw you had put it up and was busy reading all about the phone. Great review, so thanks! You really seem to know what your doing as well, so maybe you can give me some advice.

Basically iv just signed up to a new contract with o2 for the blackberry torch but really do not want a blackberry, so am going to sell it and buy an android. Iv seen the galaxy ace and it looks pretty good, for £230 at o2. But I was considering spending less, so it just makes the contract cheaper if you know what i mean. For some reason, coming installed with 2.2 really seems to make a difference for me as i dont know if il be able to do it. Do you honestly think the san fran is as good as the galaxy ace (or almost) and is it actually very easy to unlock and upgrade to 2.2?

Thanks a lot

oh and also do you think the optimus one or ace is better?

The LG Optimus Me is a good phone for the price and comes with 2.2 out the box - however, the more I play with it the more I can't help thinking the screen is too small. Personally, I don't think the Galaxy Ace is worth about £150 more than the San Francisco.

Regarding the Optimus One - seems to be along the same lines as the Optimus Me with 2.2 out the box and a bigger screen at 3.2 as opposed to the Me's 2.8. I haven't used an Optimus One so couldn't say how good or otherwise it is, but it certainly gets good reviews.

The San Fran is easy to upgrade (if I can do it, anyone can). However, I have just been reading that the new ones with Build Version B10 are reporting some faults when trying to put a Custom Rom on them.

The Motorola Defy also gets great reviews but don't think you will get a brand new one for £200 or less.

If I can think of anything else overnight I will post on the thread.

DO NOT BUY LG

BAD EXPERIENCE WILL BE HAD FOR ALL.

They need to up their game and stop producing garbage- simply put their build quality feels cheap and is cheap- not well thought out. You are right though stuart- getting the Defy for less than 200 would be a stretch- go San Fran. I think (not sure) that there are already 2.3 roms floating around for san fran :)

San Francisco is the best for under £150.

There were desires on here for about £200, anything less than £250 and go for the desire, it's still an incredible phone, and it's succesors (HD, Z, S, S INCREDIBALE) don't really offer that much more to justify the priiiiicce tagg.

Why wait for a new ZTE phone that is not available now? The San Francisco is not going to be reduced in price when it is flying off the shelves, and the new model will be slightly more expensive.
