Sat Nav

My dad has just got a new job as a delivery driver for Tesco and would like to get a sat nav system for it. All he needs it to be able to do is programme in a route with multiple stops along the way. What is the cheapest I could get this for?

Amazon have the new tomtom one for £127 delivered - it is not the cheapest but worth the extra for the far better implementation. Very neat and easy to use. I have used several different systems and the navigational algorithms and display are much more important than the latest mapping. The Itinerary function provides what you need for multiple stops very effectively.

Thats the best deal on a new one at the mo. I would definitely go with Tomtom as most other makes tend to only navigate by a partial postcode 4 or 5 figure, whereas tomtom will navigate using the entire code. I am a delivery driver myself and use tomtom, the only other thing I would recommend is keep the maps up to date. I tend to update my maps at least once a year, although with sat navs coming down in price, its starting to look cheaper just to update my unit once a year :w00t: :giggle:

Cheers for that. Assuming I go for that one (which I think I will) how would I make sure I keep the maps up to date? Do I just go to tomtom website and download new ones or do I have to pay for it?

The v3 Tomtom One has mapsharing - a feature designed to allow updating. This version is also guaranteed to have the latest maps.

I really would not be too concerned about this - even for new property development the roads and postcodes are usually known. Updating of this information is very patchy in new map releases anyway. Maps should last the life of the unit.

Amazon has a very helpful returns policy and good customer service (although slow free delivery) and it is worth buying from them for this reason in preference to Dixons - who don't care about their customers.

Why is Dixons so scared to love us? :-(
