Hello, while of work this week I was browsing on useddudley.co.uk and came across a person giving a windows 7 laptop with 3g of ram they said they where getting rid of it because the battery only lasted 2 hrs, user http://www.useddudley.co.uk/p/jannywills0047 I checked there other items and they where giving another laptop with the same reason but it was a differnt make I though fair enough I asked if I could have it and they replied

hello there my friend,i just read your mail.i have a laptop and a
32inch plasma tv with stand, i am giving out.
where are you located?
because the moderators took so much time to approve my post and i had
to relocate with them,if you are really interested, get back to me so
that we can arrange for collection.
i also have pic of them .get back to me for more info

Iasked also why the 2 laptops where in differnet areas one in tipton and one in Halesowen,

it went into my outlook junk mail which I though was strange also no mention of a tv on the other items,

then yesterday laptop for free (they have 2 up for grabs) here is the user http://www.useddudley.co.uk/p/lena45. I asked may I have it and got the response below

just had an email back from them

you are a bit far from me as i am based in Norwich.
But if you are really interested ,i can have it sent to you by courier
,you will just need to take care of courier charges which is not so
expensive from here.
waiting

yet there address on usedDudley is Stourbridge and the other laptop was in Aldridge

so I thought id play them I asked how much is the courier

they said they just checked and it would be £45 express 24hr delivery or slower £35

they obviously expect people to fall for it and never receive the items. has anybody been caught out by this?

"used" , gumtree, ebay all full of scams.... You have to be real careful......

certainly sounds like a scam and I wouldn't go for it myself, however innocent until proven guilty. Tell them you are in the Norwich area for a week and can meet them any place public to pick it up. If yes, you have found a good Samaritan, if no you have a likely scammer.

Report the seller's adverts as being from outside the area and as a scammer and let the site admin deal with it

Slightly different to this but on Gumtree and similar sites scammers would "sell" pedigree puppies for next to nothing and no matter where the ad said they were they would always tell you the puppies had been moved to somewhere else (always a long distance from the buyer) and that you would have to pay for a courier and send bank transfer with the money.

I would report them to the site as being dodgy, out of curiosity ask for their address in Norwich and say a friend can collect (I used to live in Norwich now live about 25 miles away) ofc I wont be going to collect but would be interesting to see what they say.

Ive just sent them this, oh that's great, my auntie lives in Norwich, and she coming here to visit next week so she could collect them from you and bring them with her when she comes to visit, what's your postcode or number? brett

These targeted the free sites like Freecycle and Freegle not long ago. Admin put warnings up for everyone to take care if they are offered crazy items for free and told to pay postage costs.

Postage is paid to a fake courier and they just rinse and repeat.

the seller has not responded and I reported the laptop and its been removed the other one is still on there, I will report that now.

This was the same scam that my mother was almost caught into the other day of Dartford Ads. She got all excited to tell me about the laptop, and I was finding it fishy right away, and she went on about how it doesn't have a charger, and their getting rid of it due to that reason.

A laptop which could be worth £100+, with a broken charger (which is give or take £20), and someone wants to just give it away....

She told me she e-mailed them, and she told me how they had moved, and used the scam excuse as above, and I told her it was a postal scam. You send them funds, they send out nothing, and walk away with £45.

I should've told her to e-mail them back saying she has time stamped the e-mail address and gotten their I.P address from it, and has forwarded it to the police. Just to send them a scare.
