SCART Lead for new Telly

Tomb Avatar

Waiting for my new Telly to arrive & looking for a half decent SCART lead to replace my £2.99 jobs.

Not looking for anything too expensive as will just be watching SD Sky.

What would be my best option in the £10 - £15 bracket ?

Cheers for any advice.

maplins are great for advice on all things cables. They will even make one up to your requirements if they dont have any to suit.

Cheers

Maplins are one of the places I would be happy to buy from although they`ll only give advice from their own stock.

My problem is I wouldn't know a decent cable from a duffer.

Cheers guys

The THOR one from Screwfix looked good but they have recently jiggled their delivery prices & delivery to Scotland came out badly.

I had a surf though & came up with the same cables currently 50% off from B&Q of all places so selling for £10 !! (£17.99 from Amazon). http://www.amazon.co.uk/Thor-Scart-to-1-5m/dp/B0009E66SW/ref=pd_bbs_sr_1/203-8595662-5027135?ie=UTF8&s=electronics&qid=1189414947&sr=8-1

Popped down to local store today & bought 2 (last 2 on shelf). I think its instore only.

Almost worth listing as a hot deal if I had time :-) http://www.diy.com/diy/jsp/bq/nav/nav.jsp?action=detail&fh_secondid=9290190&fh_location=%2f%2fcatalog01%2fen_GB&fh_search=thor&fh_eds=%c3%9f&fh_refview=search&ts=1189414763471&isSearch=true

Notice any performance difference over the cheapo scart? May go for one myself.

£50 for a scart cable is just silly , you will not notice any difference between that and an ixos/philex thor scart cable , the latter being the cheaper option at just £17 ! .... does depend on what length scart lead you require.

goto www.audiovisualonline.co.uk ..... the philex thor scart leads are £17.00 with free p&p and these retail at £29.99

without a doubt , this has improved the picture quality from my cable box to my plasma ... i couldnt believe the differences it made to the colour , i too was very sceptical as to whether its gonna make a difference or not , it really does !

although i opted for a monster hdmi cable for my dvd player , i bought this from ebay off an american seller with a good rating and buyer protection , this was half the price that the lead was retailing for over here and that included shipping .... the monster brand is ridiculously over-priced and i think people are paying for the name here , check out the ixos / philex thor leads and reviews before spending stupid money , and lets face it £50 for a scart lead is just plain stupid when you cant notice the difference between that and a £17 one ......

Cheers, just popped to B&Q and picked up the Thor one for £10. Will test it on my sky connection tonight. Cheapo scart has been long overdue a replacement.

Good stuff mikeyp.

Let us know how you got on with it. (I wont be able to test mine till tomorrow).

p.s. Did your B&Q have it marked as "reduced" - mine just had it displayed as if it was the normal price, threw me a bit & had to double check.

I've had a look & they only seem to make one Scart to Scart.

I've listed this as a Hot Deal.

Thanks to all who led me to this find.

lol £3000 u were had.

it was the 42" panasonic viera when it first came out, the best flat panel tvs cost way more.

Not sure how other brands compared as it's my first "decent" scart cable, but a £30 QED Squart scart cable on my 27" LG LCD worked wonders.
The picture with the standard cable was quite noisy but now it's pretty crisp until you get up close.

Well connected it up and do notice a difference with this baby, colours are certainly more vibrant. Cable is a beast, almost twice as thick as the cheapo cable I had. Money well spent!

Ahh and to be anal... you spent about £2000 on your tv. I got mine before you and it only cost me about £1600, no way would I blow £50 on a cable. Most expensive cable I use is an anti surge cable @ £10 and the rest I have made myself for a few quid.

EDIT: Included text formating to make is a bit easier on your eyes

These are the best types. The way conventional scarts are designed, they come out of the socket by thereself over time as the weight of the cable is to one side.

If you lose a colour on your tv, it's usually this that has happened, as one (or some) of the pins have lost contact with the socket.
