I'm about to buy a new fabric corner sofa from DFS (soft fabric with a leather effect trim around the bottom). Do they usually try to sell you a Scotchguard protector and/or ask you to pay for it to be done before delivery? My mother bought a similar sofa from Harveys and I think she ended up paying around £120 extra for protection and a home cleaning kit. Is it worth paying out that, or is it something you can purchase on-line yourself cheaper? Thank you.

Just keep a bottle of Vanish in your cupboard for emergencies.

To be fair the cost for scotch guarding is minimal and is more a way for the company to make more profit and for the sales person to make extra commission on up selling. The product does delay stains but it does not make your furniture bulletproof depending on what you spill on the furniture

just get a couple of cans of Scotchguard and spray it yourself.

Paid for the scotchguard protection from DFS and received 3 cans.......I assumed they would spray at manufacturer level not just send the stuff for me to do myself. Was a bit ####ed off!

As mentioned prior. It will not stop stains or liquids eventually soaking into Fabric...but it makes the clean up or stain removal so much better. You can buy the protection spray yourselves and save a fortune. There are multiple companies doing it.. but being in the detailing business I still find the 3m original one the best.

Scotchguard is not allowed in UK anymore, it will be sprayed with a liquid.
It is NOT a stain repellant, it will not stop or block the fabric from staining. It will soak the stain, you will then be told to contact the company on your receipt for them to try to remove, firstly they will send out a cleaning kit to you, for you to attempt to clean, ignore this wait 3-5 days phone them back up saying stain is still there they will then send castelan out to remove the stain or replace the part..

In the 15 years i worked for dfs NEVER has any scotchguard been sent to customers. A cleaning kit yes but not scotchguard, as the product dfs use is called Fabricote :)

Paid for it it years ago on a cloth sofa, but didnt seem to make much difference-still stained!!! Would it have been worse without? who knows.

Bought John Lewis leather sofas though about 8 years ago, and still perfect-even with 2 kids, 1 dog and 2 previous cats.

We bought the whole set 5 years ago, sprays, wipes, foams. Still sat in the cupboard untouched. Sofa looks great anyway.
