Quick google suggests the above as a possible solution.

I haven't tried reformatting yet but I need to
retain my data...music and photos on the SD card, can anyone tell me if I reformat and then paste the data back into the card whether I will actually get back to square one,!?!!?

I had this happen when moving my mum's SD card. Try reformatting the SD card in your Samsung phone and it might work? Did this when I got mum the Moto G (3rd Gen) recently, formatted it in my mobile first.

ok sounds like this might be the key...did that wipe the contents of the SD card?
If so did you paste the data back on?

Mum really doesn't have a lot on her MicroSD card anyway, but somehow the photos were still preserved. It would be wiser for you to extract important files from the SD card first on a PC/laptop, then reformat.

I have had issues with a Sandisk MicroSD in the past (the Micro SDXC red/silver cards that were prone to dying after a few years) but I doubt that will be your problem. Sandisk replaced my 64GB a while back after it stopped reading/writing data.

Hope you get it working okay :) I've got a Note 4, but I'm sure all Samsung phones ask to reformat when you insert a different MicroSD card - not sure about other brands.

It's an easy fix that takes less than 20 seconds. You need to format the SD card to FAT32. You need to backup your contents first then format it. https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=JA9fp863d-o

Thanks to everyone - the card is recognised but cant get any of my music which is saved under a folder called "Music" which is a shame so half way to the goal.

If anyone has any ideas they would be most welcome!

BTW I can access the music through 'Explorer' but not through 'Music' App - any ideas helpful HUKDers?
