Could anybody shed some light on this?

I have 1.49 TB free on my Seagate STBV2000200 2TB external hard drive, Last night I set of the Titanfall free weekend game (50gb), When I woke this morning the download had failed at 55%, I have just tried to install L.A Noire to from Steam to the drive and it is saying no space left......

Pictures below.

Or backup the files on it to onedrive and do a format and erase to start again. If you stil have a problem you could contact sea gate. I think they often do an advance product replacement and pay for shipping.

The possible option is - you've been sold a 500gb harddrive that has been made to appear to be 2tb

Fake Western Digital Portable Hard Drive

That would be quite worrying, It was purchased from Amazon.

I would plug the hard drive into a PC, enable "show hidden files and folders" and just check that there are no corrupt or background files that have taken up the storage. Are the items on it necessary to keep or can you afford to do a format and try again?

Well the weird thing is, It's only 8 months old, It has only ever stored Steam games on it, I use it whilst boot camping with a mac, So I have never actually been any further than the current capacity.

You could open it up and check, however you would void the warranty with amazon and the retailer. Perhaps the windows/mac has been backing up files or your recycle bin has filled it up: possibly check its empty?

Thank you, I really appreciate that, It says warranty could not be determined >.<

I am just going to run this diagnostics tool, I mean I could format it I suppose, But won't know another definitive answer until 500gb+ is installed again :(

Perhaps you have partial steam file downloads on it too.
#11
Alternatively speak to amazon on chat and tell them that it is under warranty for 3 years. If they say send it to manufacturer, you could explain how it's the retailers responsibility. Or just ask for a refund.

The Steam folder on the drive is only 316gb oO

Their customer service is usually very good. Did you buy it from amazon or from a 3rd party seller via amazon just thinking: heat may explain the whole'fake' suggestion mentioned? Maybe worth checking in amazon past orders.

I bought it direct from Amazon, August last year......I'm typing my answers but thinking of the dread of having to download all my games again lol.

Just seen the fake link, not seen anything like showing 1.5tb free space and full on the download. Unless there is a mechanical platter fail or the read head is scratching? I would do diagnosis and then format and see from there bud.

Quick question mate, Sorry, I wont take anymore of your time.....

Return Window expired on 31 January 2014. Read more about returns after 30 days policy.

Do I now need to deal with Seagate?

That is the amazon 30 day return window for if you change your mind. You still have your statutory rights and the warranty with seagate too. I would contact amazon

Should take you to help>contact us>chat. Tell them your problem about it not writing any more so you would lie an exchange or refund as it is only 7 months old if you want to do that and don't get anywhere with the application diagnosis.

Your hard drive is fine and its capacity is not being used up. If it that was the case, you would be receiving messages from Windows that various operations had failed and/or lack of hard drive space is being made available. It is quite evidential that the issue is caused by Steam falsely reporting the issue.

Please contact Steam support and notify them of a potential bug within their installer. Also, you may be able to find a workaround from here https://www.google.com.hk/search?q=steam+not+enough+disk+space+site:forums.steampowered.com&rls=com.microsoft:en-GB:IE-SearchBox&gws_rd=ssl

Hi mate, thanks for the response, but as noted the Origin Titanfall download ceased to go past 55%, so its not exclusive to a Steam issue.

How is the drive formatted - FAT32, exFAT, NTFS?
Try downloading a Linux ISO of a couple of GB, eg centos.org, and mkaing multiple copies.
That would eliminate an application issue.
Do you have another computer you can try it on?

Hi mate, thanks for the response, but as noted the Origin Titanfall download ceased to go past 55%, so its not exclusive to a Steam issue.

In the DOS command prompt, you can create a dummy file which can ensure that your hard drive has the required capacity. The syntax of the command is:

fsutil file createnew filename size

where filename is the name of the file and size represents the size in bytes.

Hence fsutil file createnew test.tst 53677091200 will create a file called test.tst of 50 GB in size. If the file had been successfully created, your hard drive is not reaching its capacity. In this instance, you need to contact Steam support and ask them if it is possible for them to reveal under what circumstances that the error is reported and whether this includes write failures. With regards to Titanfall, I don't know how you are downloading it but I suspect it is not being downloaded using the standard Browser's downloader but using a proprietary downloader.

Well, Bit of an update, I formatted the drive last night and set off just over half a terabyte's worth of data, So far so good.
