Selling empty boxes on Ebay

Is this allowed?

http://www.ebay.co.uk/itm/Playstation-4-500GB-package-/281714288122

It took me a few moments to register that this was just the empty box for sale.

I feel sorry for whoever just paid £180 for it.

I think he/she would be able to get the money back because the item was listed under the Console section but there is no console provided.

Still it is clear in the description that it is only a box for sale. Idiots

I'm pretty sure they don't allow you to sell an empty box. I tried to sell a 1st gen box but they ended it and said I had violated eBay policy even though I clearly stated it was a box only with pictures to back it up, I also only started the auction off at 99p.
#3
Yeah, they should receive a severe warning over it. The listing may be clear, but why set such a ridiculous price if it's just a box, if your aim is genuinely to sell a box, and not angle for a buyer who doesn't read it properly.

1st gen iPad that is.

this is dead common, you see iphone boxes etc all the time.

They hike the price up so it looks real. They do normally always state they are a box.

Its just to catch people out who don't read properly I think as they have technically done nothing wrong (even though its totally a scam) as it is described as box only.

The listing was started at £10, not exactly a ridiculous price for the box.

Personally I don't feel sorry for whoever bought it. There's no reason why you shouldn't read the description of the item you want to bid on.
However, if the seller is only selling a box it shouldn't only be mentioned in the description, it should also be in the title of the listing.

Other items sold, YouTube subscribers lol.

I agree really. People sell things like perfume boxes etc because people collect them. Nothing wrong with selling the box in my opinion, as long as you make it clear. It should be in the title.

I think he did mention it in the title. It says 'package' at the end. This is a clever attempt to mislead people because other PS4 sales on there are described as "Ps4 console package" where there is a console plus games or accessories.
So package (meaning box) used to make people think package (as in a bundle of items).

This is a bit dodgy in my opinion.

I think the listing is kind of clear, though a little ambiguous when it states "everything in the box". Though it does say afterwards "this is only the box for sale"...

I have bought boxes for some of my old consoles on ebat (Dreamcast, SNES and so on), which helps keeps them safe and increases there resale value if ever i decide to sell them.

I don't understand what those are. I'm guessing some kind of rent-a-crowd to make you look popular?

Yep, and probably not real either, just a bunch of accounts he has created. Also used to generate him a bit of feedback, so when he tries to sell something of value nobody bats an eyelid.

I think eBay will favor the buyer as normally listing of boxes are normally described in the title "box only no phone or console". It be classed as misdescriptive. Even if they purchased it there just send it back.

The trouble is old console boxes genuinely sell for a lot if they are in good condition as collectors want them.

Back on the topic the listing is done badly. Yes they worded it well but category wise its done badly which means eBay should refund no questions asked.
Surprised the seller hasn't been banned yet.

Fake boxes, ebooks and the like are so rare now a days as eBay is a lot more keen on.

now relisted

And the poster of this thread banned.
I wonder why? :|

its not just the box - its listed in Listed in category:

Video Games & Consoles
>
Consoles

clearly implies the console is part of items for bidding on.

Why did you try to sell an empty box?
Did you really think people would be out there screaming to buy an empty box?
Or were you just trying it on like this one clearly is?
Please let us know your reasoning on this.

Sometimes people want to sell an item but have no box. Having a box for it albeit not the actual box for the item adds some credibility to the sale. So yes, people would buy a box for 99p. I know I would.

That's my reasoning anyway

+1 boxes can be very helpful i had to buy a iphone box once and probably many others so dont see any harm just add box only in title

I tried to sell the box my purse came in (it was a mulberry purse and the box is quite nice to use for make/up/jewellery storage) and ebay removed the listing as apparantly people buy genuine packaging to sell fakes so they look more real.

exactly for the above reason, many people buy them without a box, if you have the original box it's adds value and gets more interest.

I have sold iPhone boxes on eBay before but I title it like 'iPhone 5 BOX ONLY' then I repeat it in the description too, the way that guy has titled it I would say it's to mislead people.
