I listed a device worth 380 on Gumtree, got a message n offered me little low, finally agreed on 370, the thing surprised me, he wants to send courier to collect and the guy will pay in cash, according to him he is courier controller, anyways I got feeling is possibly some scam, also he refused to share his eBay I'd, guy's already cancelled the deal, but I am really wanted to know, is it some kind of scam, or maybe just worried for nothing

They're all courier controllers or have nephew's 18 birthday coming soon and need to post it to South Africa ASAP.

Scam, avoid.

Unless you meet the actual buyer in person and check each bank note for forgeries I would ignore the offers to trade and walk away, even if it is for the a Pastor on his way to tend to sick children in Nigeria.

If anything sounds dodgy I give it a miss! Too many scammers out their.

The only scam that I may fool for (because I know pretty much every scam going) is by accepting fake notes, god forbid I don't however its always on my mind as I sell second items alot!

I have never knowingly had a fake note so I am unsure how obvious they are but it does worry me, along with that I always check the money is correct, but it is hard to stand their and check each note is genuine. Anyone else agree?

On a side note, I have actually had more people giving me too much money than to little, so most people are trust worthy! Of course, I always give them the extra back and they normally thank me lol

People have suggested handing cash over at a bank so you can pay it in in their presence. Or you could buy a fake note pen of course. :)http://www.amazon.co.uk/Single-Fake-Counterfeit-Bank-Detector/dp/B0050AXYRQ/ref=pd_cp_office_3

On the other hand, putting his shoes on, maybe he doesn't trust you the same way. He pays cash on collection, everything is fine in his eyes. He pays by PP and then turns out there's no item, stung for 370 sovs.
Hope that makes sense.

If he's a "courier controller" then ask him which company he works for then check their website and phone him on the company phone number to confirm. If he's being cagey then don't deal. Go with your instincts.

Nobody in their right mind buys things remotely from Gumtree. That's what ebay is for and unless we're dealing with some unique only-one-in-the-entire-country item (which I doubt), why would you bother yourself and seller with some endless email exchange, arranging couriers, payments, cheques and god knows what else if you could just click PAY NOW on ebay and get it over with? Also have buyer protection from both ebay and paypal on the top of the convenience?

DON'T POST ITEMS FROM GUMTREE, it's really as simple as that.
