Today we bought some pick and mix fronts market store however when I got home I weighed them myself and found they weighed 450 grams but o paid for just under 750 grams. It seemed wrong at the time however I paid for sweets and never touched them untill I weighed them at home. I used our old and new set of scales that both read the same weight. I'm sure I'm not the only one who has thought things were not right but am I the only one that has tested the theory? I'm going to stick with wrapped sweets from now on. I don't think carrying your own scales is the answer but I guess these digital scales can be easy to fiddle with. Has anyone else had noticed this type of scam?

Wow, some people will stoop very low won't they! Mainly ripping kids off there! If they're a permanant stall you could speak to your Trading Standards team as the Weights and Measures enforcers will pay them a visit. They came in undercover when I worked in a pub once and measured the pint I'd pulled them to the millilitre. Unless of course it's an innocent mistake on their side...

I may not be able to tell the difference, by weight, between 450 gm and 500 gm - 10% . but I'm very sure I could tell the difference between 450 gm and 750 gm -75 % -oO

side by side most people would realise 450g is lighter than 750g, but the op didn't have anything to compare the weight with at the time
can you pick up any random item in your home and guess the correct weight to within 75% every time?

Have you informed Trading Standards? They will go and check the scales for you and prosecute the owner if they are conning people.
