Short break in York

Hey up all...

I'm looking for a short break in York sometime in August, probably a Moday to Friday, but maybe Mon - Thursday. I don't drive so near the Train Station would be a bonus, though not necessary.

I have done a google but all the hotels I've seen so far are way over my budget - some are £120 per person per night. I don't expect the Ritz but somewhere nice must be available for a decent price... I hope.

If anyone can make a suggestion or tell me a better place to look I'd be most grateful. Thanks in advance!

There is a travel lodge in the city centre about 5 mins walk from the station.
Or there is a holiday inn express near Clifton moor on the outskirts of the city? York isn't very big so its a 2-3 mile walk to the centre but there are buses during the day are every 10 mins due there being a park and ride along the road.

Can't really recommend any B & Bs as haven't used any .....
or premier travel inn, i have stay in these and travel lodge when working away and would always opt for premier travel inn

they was £50 a room back when i used to use them a year ago.
Cheers folks...

I'll have a look there now. My dad claims to be a "holiday expert" and says teletext is the way forward, so I'll try that as well and let you know how I get on.

Still open to ideas...

Thanks again!
I work for a hotel booking company, hotels in York as you have discovered don't tend to be very cheap. Outside of London York is one of the most expensive places for hotels. There aren't a huge amount of hotels in York so the hotels do fill up and they can afford to keep the prices high as they know they will more than likely fill their rooms.

As a couple of others have suggested your best bet for a reasonable price is to try Travelodge or Premier Travel Inn.

Telextext isn't the bargain place that it used to be! Try
