Hi,

I want to get sky soon as I am tired of Telewest's terrible services and value for money.

The package I am going to get is all six mixes excluding any premium channels and Sky max broadband.

The two questions I have are these:

As Sky max broadband has free professional installation does my broadband get installed at the same time as my digital TV or will I have to wait a few days after my TV has been installed.

Is there any way that I can get Sky+ without paying the £10 a month subscription. I do not mind if I have to pay for the box.

By the way I am going to do this online through Quidco as I get £55 and the £10 free credit from Sky.

Thanks and any help would be appreciated.

There's a couple of big threads concerning Sky at the moment, just browse down the deal requests forum, they should both be in the first couple of pages.

In summary though, I would very much suspect that the broadband gets installed separately (it might be more than a few days...!). You won't have to pay the £10 for Sky+ because you're taking the top package.

Do you need the max broadband package, the £5 per month is quite good?

Plenty of threads about squeezing a good deal out of Sky TV, but is alot harder if you are a new customer.

Sky TV tends to be a personal choice, offering quantity over quality, not that cable is much better.
My Telewest is a few channels less, but their VoD (TV on Demand streaming, massive content 95% free to watch at your leisure like having access to a massive archive of TV and pay for films and other content is great) I myself have the TV Drive (now called V+) and I'm very pleased with it, I got a good retentions deal saving me over £120 on this renewed 12months.

Sky's broadband, for my use, I would not touch with a barge pole, they have a long way to come with that.

Chris,

Actually Sky are way better than Telewest/ Virgin Media. On Telewest the menus are slowwwwwww, I sometimes lose channeles ( like discovery for 2 weeks straight), Blueyonder regularly keeps on failing and I do not really like their Teleport services as it is mostly BBC stuff which I rarely watch. Also Sky is only around £2 more expensive than my current Telewest package.

My Telewest Package:
Line Rental: £11.50
Essential: £9
2mb Broadband: £18
Total= £38.50

The Sky Package I want to get:
All 6 mixes= £21
Max Broadband= £10
Bt Phone Line= £11
Total= £42

For that bit more money I get 8x faster broadband, a lottttttttttt better tv and a lottttttttt more channels and a lotttttt faster menus.

I do need 16mb as all other packages have capped downloads. Also I am not getting the top package because you have to have sky sports and sky movies which I am not getting which means that I have to pay £10 a month for Sky+.

I had the NTL package, you know tv, phone and broadband.
NTL's cable box was a pile of dog doo and kept resetting, overheating and all kinds of weird stuff. Their customer service was terrible, so I switched to Sky. However I have kept the NTL boradband as I think it is one of the best I have used, not too sure how Sky's broadband tallies up, but I know I always get full up and downstream on my NTL cable.

I find Sky much better for the TV, the box is quicker to respond and had no issues so far (however the new virgin V+ boxes might be good?).

Plus NTL bent over backwards to keep me and gave me half price broadband when I said I was going to switch to Sky.

Are you sure that you can get the 16mb BB?

As I understand it,at the mo, sky BB is only available in about 50% of the country, though this will be 70% by year end,and not everywhere can get the max BB you are considering.

For me telewest has been great, their BB has never let me down, the menus occasionally are slow(rebooting sorts this and sky boxes have the very same issues as well) and I personally like the fact that should your box break down,as it is their equipment anyway,it gets replaced foc.Teleport I love also, but that is personal to the things you like to watch I suppose.

Muckypup,

I live in North London so I do not think that this will be a concern.

Just in case is there a website where you can check if Sky Broadband is available in your area and also to check if it is ADSL+2 enabled?

Hi,

We had Sky Television installed yesterday and we were told to phone Sky to inform them that we wanted the 3 for £26 deal-which is very good!!!! We phoned Sky and we were told that our phone hadn't been registered even though we were phoning from the phone and the television had in fact been activated. After several phone calls and being made out to be a liar by them i found out that they had in fact put in the wrong phone number!!!! We are not impressed and we advice people to be cautious!!!! We are writing a letter of complaint and sending a copy of our phone bill to them. We also have to wait for our Broadband until Friday which is even more frustrating. :-(

I do not think that I need to worry about that as most applications are handled well and only some end up with faults.

Also muckypup I can not use that as I have a cable phoneline do you know how to check by postcode?

Heck! didn't consider that:oops: apparently phone line checks are best, can you use the phone number of a neighbour who has bt line maybe,or someone close who would use the same exchange as yours?

I will have another look for you in the meantime:)

I know someone who can get you Sky+ for free or SkyHD for £149... if you're interested PM me.

PS you have to be a new Sky Subscriber or order it through an alternative surname and bank account at the current address :)

Okey dokey,I cannot find a postcode checker to see if you can get sky max.
However this may be worth a try, going on moneysupermarket.com and their broadband section, there is an 'ask the expert' thingy where you can get advice on what is best and available to you.I have read a couple of the threads and he seems to know his stuff. It may be worth an internet chat with him.

I have put the link here.

you may need to join the forum or something,I don't know, but it seems worth it to check everything out with someone who knows before you change:)

Hi,

Sorry to jump on this thread, but i was looking at taking up the 3 for £26 offer as this is all that's available in my area. There is a £55 cashback from Quidco and a £10 online bonus for joining Sky online. Am i right it believing though that this 3 for £26 offer is only available by phone? The £55 would come in really handy
