Help needed!!

I was thinking of getting sky+ with sky movies, variety and style.

I have never had sky before and was wondering what the best deals people have got from them - I heard free sky+ box for new customers and £35 for the mix I wanted, but it seems a lot so I was wondering what you have been offered.

I also wanted to know if I can have two boxes for the same monthly fee as if I had one, how do they connect - ie do they work independanly of each other meaning TV downstairs and upstairs can have different channels on at the same time and if the boxes are movable between rooms. Could I have one sky+ box and one normal box (or would they have to be the same) and do you think I'd have to pay for both machines or could I haggle and them for free?

Do you still need a massive sky dish on your house these days, or have they invented tiny little unseen ones or even better no dish at all? If you need a dish, does it need to go on a certain side of the house (and can you find out which side prior to an installation - we have no neighbours and my parents who own the house will not allow anything on the front half of the house as it's 'too pretty', though the other half is hidden and would be OK).

All help and best prices you have recieved would be much appreciated, Thank you!

I would be really grateful if someone could help - I though HDUK being such a big forum someone might have sky+ and be able to answer my questions.

sounds like the best deal is the deal quoted (assuming you get free installation) basically you have to pay for following

installation
equipment (Box and ariel)
montly subscription

you can normally get the install free and the equipment cheap/free depending on what offers sky have on and how much you push the customer service department. £35 for movies variety and mix sounds about right (but i havn't checked yet) if you speak to them and plead poverty with some exscuse (something which will ebnd in a few months) they may give you half price for 3 months but i would be VERY surprised. most people find hat playing SKY off against virgin works a treat cos sky loves stealing custom off virgin!

You need a mini dish (those black mesh ones) If you don't want a dish you get cable (Virgin). Dish goes (normally) on the south side of your house and some techno boffin will tell you exactly which way it should face. You can have the dish installed in the garden instead but normally this is done by people with non sky satalite systems so the dish can be easily moved to pick up other satelites (also the Sky installer probably wont do that)

Thank you. I didn't want virgin media as I really want sky one and the sky movies. I think I'll phone virgin anyway to find out what they will offer me and use it to get the best out of sky that I can.
Anyone know if they do student deals or discounts, as I'd be eligable for that.
I'll definately go for a mini dish and try and haggle something out of them!
Now waiting for the bank holiday to end so I can get the haggling over and sky up and running asap!!
