My Sky TV & Broadband bundle is currently £122 a month, crazy, I have just been on the phone to Sky and slapped in my months notice to cancel the TV, I am happy with the broadband so have decided to keep the 40mb at a reduced rate of £15p/m (+ line rental).

I have been out of contract with Sky since May (which I didn't know), I'm not really interested in moving to Virgin Media, my question is what move should I make next regarding a possible lower TV package? Wait for Sky to contact me or go running after a couple of weeks?

Wow £121 A month what sky channels do you receive ? A lot of people get phone calls a month or so later or a discount when cancelling which I had for broadband and phone. Maybe join as new customer and check if its cheaper?

I have the Family Pack, HD channels, Movies and Sports, extra box in the bedroom, I'm not quite sure I can join as a new customer? I believe (I could be wrong) it needs a 12 month rest period?

If they do not contact you then look at quidco and get sky again they are usually giving around £150 cashback on a new sky contract

I was under the impression you had to be away from Sky for 12 months to class as a new customer?

Wait for a phone call from them, might take a couple of weeks. If they offer anything less than 50% off I'd personally refuse it. I've been offered at least 50% off the last 3 years just by playing the waiting game, sometimes with free broadband thrown in too.

Yeah I'd just um and ah over the price with them, explain that you enjoy having the full package, but can't justify the price any more.

we pay £25 for all channels inc movies not sport. multiroom. sky go extra full hd pack. i basically threatened to move to vm and they beat the fake deal i stated basically everything if half price for 12 months on a new 12 month contract then i just call again (third time now) i think sky fobre unlimited was an extra £10 pm plus line rental (WHICH IS GOING UP SOON TO OVER £17) your cheapest option may be to have tv only and go with another provider for bb

I think someone else may need to take out the new customer contract so your significant other/housemate or whatever could do it. That's what I've done previously although that was a few years back.

To be honest I'm happy with how the broadband stands, I think it's around £34 with line rental, I don't really require any more than 40mb, My thought process with the TV is that I have a SMART TV with Now TV, Amazon Prime and such, I have kids so the loss of the kids channels would be a blow but all in all I can live without Sky to save £85 a month, but if they were to offer me a decent reduced rate I would obviously stay on.

Agree with big tasty. They normally offer 50% off if you wait. I too have had it for the last couple of years.

I cancelled two weeks ago, got a letter a few days ago offering me 35% off but only for main package and sports. no discount on HD or multi room. no thank you I would rather leave

I "left them" at the end of November. with a week to go I got in a live chat with them and they offered me 50% off my tv packages. I said I wasn't interested as they wouldn't include multiroom. I "broke" at 60% off for 12 months for a 12 month contract! Happy with that. As you buy the broadband etc too you should be in a stronger position. Don't be afraid to wait!

I'm with virgin, my package is £87 a month, I have TiVo, 4 extra hd boxes in bedroom largest tv package 50mb BB and evening & weekends .. There is a slight discount the but I dread to think what it would be if I was with sky, their prices are way too steep :(

my god you must be watching some amount of porn. seriously I pay 57 quid for all channels, unlimited broadband and unlimited phone calls including bt line rental. they are ripping you off..

i'm not sure specifically of sky's tactics, but my approach would be:
call up retentions team
spin a story such as 'the package is too expensive, we don't use it much, we don't get great value, we can get a much cheaper deal for what we want elsewhere (quoting a random competitor's price for a stripped down service), and/OR my mate dave down the pub laughed at me because his aunt's step-son's ex-girlfriend's neighbour's cat only pays £22.50 for sports and movies; but the missus has been banging on at me for getting rid of movies/HD/multiroom (any old feature that may or may not be unique to that provider), so for the sake of my sanity and to get her off my back, if you can give us a deal that favourably compares to that, I'm happy to commit for another 12 months and save the hassle of moving'
you may obviously want to refine it a bit and give your own take on it....but it always works for me.
and the best part about it is if you aren't successful, you can always hang up and try the next day with another operator. someone else from the house can always try too....I've lost count of the number of times I've been asked to confirm the bill payer's details but have never been asked if I'm the bill payer.

sky are famous for their awesome retention deals. they're one of the few companies that reward you for staying (if you push the right buttons)
you've been paying the max price for the entire length of your contract and a further 7 months so they should look after you.

I pointed out that I had Sky Movies via Now TV (which I got free with my LG TV and expires in March, but I didn't mention that bit to them) I also pay for Amazon Prime so have that as well via the TV, I stated that my only concern was the sports channels as I watch the football, my TV is freesat and all I would really be losing that I care about was the childrens channels.

He seemed quite pushy in stating that I had an extra box in my bedroom (as if I should be thankful for that alone), but as I stated its not really an additional service in my eyes as I can only be in one room at any given time watching one TV :)

I will hang fire for a couple of weeks as the contract doesnt officially die till the 17/1.

Maybe have a look at Now TV entertainment pack as you get some kids channels included with that.

I have pretty much identical package to you but with virgin i pay £75pm (retention deal) if you can get virgin in your area use that as a bargaining tool
