Am looking for a decent socket set for general DIY purposes. Not sure what the difference is between 1/4, 3/8, 1/2 inch sets etc - any clues?

Does anyone know a decent site where I can buy for max £40ish?

Thanks

I too would say Halfords, but I'd go in store as imo their website is pretty poor.
The 1/4", 3/4" and 1/2" is the DRIVE size, not the socket size. This is the bit that connects the socket to the ratchet / breaker bar / whatever.
For general DIY a 3.4" would be a reasonable size to start. You can get adaptors to change from one to the other, but obviously if you got a 1/4" drive, and tried to use a large socket to do something up really tight, (using an adaptor), you may just sheer the driver off.

This one is £50, so a bit more than you wanted to spend, but it does look pretty good to me :)

The sizes of wrench are 1/4", 3/8"and 1/2".
3/4" Wrench has no place in the home, may find a use for it in a power station though.:whistling:
