I'm on an EE Sim Only deal and am looking for 'cheap' flagship devices to buy outright to use with my SIM

I'm currently on an LG G3 which despite still being a decent phone is starting to lag and slow, the battery is depleting badly, and it gets very hot when used, and am looking for a latest flagship to replace it in the coming weeks/months

I am extremely impressed with the new Xiaomi Mi Mix, and although it isn't cheap it is cheapER than most EU flagships and I absolutely love the edgeless design, also have fantastic specifications

However the new Xiaomi Note 2 also looks great, basically a low cost Note 7 replacement and looks awesome, same flagship specs as the Mix tbh

I'm not looking to get a contract deal on something like the new Sony X or the Pixel, I'm buying a phone sim free

I want flagship specs, so things like the Huawei p9 lite, or older Xiaomi Redmi Note 3 Pro, won't cut it

Any advice on what to do? Thanks

G5? Posted as a hot deal at £336.

How about one plus three. Get it from O2 sim only £336. This comes unlocked. Please note if you put in an EE sim you may need to get it configured as some settings do not work. Simple process at an EE shop.

I also have a G3, also looking at either the Note 2 or the Mi Mix. But they'll be very few Mi Mix until Jan due to Xiaomi not committing to make that many every month.

My mum has the G5 and I think it's a great phone, it has a great screen much like my G3, my only gripe is that LG software on the G series seems to have some persistent problems, my mum had the G3, G4 and now 5 and all suffer from similar software issues, e.g bootloop, Spotify keeps pausing, battery suddenly plummets 20% in 5 minutes even on standby

Also I may be wrong but isn't that 336 deal only if you buy a contract? saw something about that in the comments, it is a good option if I can get it for around 320 though, thanks

Oneplus looks exciting and again around the 300 mark, but I just can't deal with going from a quad HD on my 2-year-old phone, to a 1080p on a flagship, although the 6GB RAM is insane and the processor is very good, it isn't quite an 821

Or maybe Im being picky, Im just on the fence between the G5, oneplus and waiting for a Xiaomi flagship to drop in price

The bezel less screen is nuts, and the specs to boot too, I'll be waiting til black friday or perhaps january anyways so will keep an eye on the Mix and Note 2

Another vote here for the Oneplus 3. £329 direct from Oneplus or as stated earlier £336 from O2.

Due to non existant warranties with Chinese phones, or having to send phone to China, at your expense, I'd personally steer clear of buying from the likes of Gearbest and other such companies.

Oneplus 3 direct from O2 is probably the best bet.

Idk if you have experience with 2k or quad HD screens, but what is the image quality like on the OP3? can you honestly notice the difference between 1440 and 1080?

Leaning towards the OP3 but will wait to see if the Mix gets enough stock to drop a little, 550 is a bit steep

I bought this from there two months ago and had no problems, for what you pay it's an absolute steal.

Xperia is always a good bet I find.

Best and arguably most reliable Android skin along with silky smooth performance.

The screen could be it's weak spot. Just depends on what they've stiffened the edges with. I can see the screen having major cracking problems if there's nothing much to protect the edges from knocks. Obviously using an armor case makes the bezel free design a bit pointless!

Nexus 6P at least something that already has Android 7.1.1 with Daydream and will get the next android version also, no bloatware etc etc.

Personally hate Sony phones, stuck in the dark ages with massive bezels and square design

OP3 winning atm although the screen on the 6P makes it a contender for me, half the RAM though

Sony designs are great, far flung from the generic Apple-esque Samsung. The only competitor in terms of looks is HTC but they're not as practical imo.

Bezels arent a big issue for me, I can still use the phone one handed and get stereo speakers. In terms of ratios, it isn't that much worse than other flagships anyway.

Wouldn't touch the one plus 3 till the software matures. The 6gb of RAM offers next to nothing over the competitors and annoy me to no end.

If I wanted a phone I could rely on for a consistent experience, it wouldn't be there

Samsung must be pooping their pants at those two phones.

Hey guys, so I went for the Mi Max after the great deal on Geekbuying, £148, waiting for the super long delivery now

the 650 is certainly an upgrade on my G3 processing, its 3GB RAM so again more, and a rlly big screen which is nice

my only worries are, its not an 810, 820 or 821, so not the latest snapdragon out there, so isn't really a high tech replacement?

also it's 1080 which while being a downgrade from G3 quad HD, most things I watch are in 1080 and the difference to me seems negligible

let me know your thoughts? I can refund as I paid with paypal, if it turns out a crappy 'next gen' replacement

as for my g3, new battery helped boost life til the Max gets here in a couple weeks, but its still laggy as hell sometimes and overheats easily

cheers in advance

id say the g5 is still the best bet with its best camera of any smartphone and current top flagship specs. Its more than twice the price so maybe see how you get on with the mi max and maybe something more exciting will come out to upgrade to in the future

hey Albino, noticed some of your posts in other thread regarding the xiaomi phones. I'm literally in the same boat too, my LG is clogging up, slowing down, battery depletes quickly and is bugging out. Looking for an upgrade now and have been liking the look of the Chinese phones however reluctant to let go of the pixels and qhd screen of the g3.

Was hoping to bag the g5 but was trolled lol so have been looking at the mi5 from your posts. I don't mind paying for a good phone, not looking to cheap out and expect the world in terms of specs. Was it a good buy? I know you switched over to the mi5 now.

oneplus 3 RAM looks appealing too lol

The mi5 is honestly a great device, the only issue I've had is my EE SIM wouldn't connect to one of the dual SIM slots but the other was fine, and it was found out to be an EE issue, not a Xiaomi one

It's very smooth, I like MIUI, it looks very clean, spacious app tiles and a vibrant screen, I've had no problems at all with lagging even with 5+ windows up, and the RAM management is amazing, I can window a game, chat on fb, watch youtube and come back in 10 mins and its still paused where I left it

It also has quirky MIUI exclusive things like Quick ball and one hand mode, which I have actually found useful, especially when commuting to work on a busy tube where I can only use one hand for sure

The audio is crisp and quite flat, altho I do have very good headphones (Philips Fidelio MKIIs) so could be that
Also have a speaker option which amplifies speaker sound and a bass boost function which I love

I was concerned about losing qhd too, but honestly this screen is so bright and vibrant is looks just as if not more crisp than the LG G3, almost too bright sometimes and I turn it down to 70-80%, its insane how bright it is

It also dims down to an insanely dim level, which always annoyed me on the G3, the lowest setting was too bright for me at bedtime

The battery in my Mi5 easily lasts me the whole day on max brightness doing what I want, and I am one HEAVY phone user, non stop games like PvZ, Score Hero, youtube, skyping my gf, then listening to spotify while FBing...
plus QC3 means if you pop it on charge for 15 mins it charges another 20-25% which tops you up to full charge

It feels very light, but it still looks and feels premium, very glossy, smooth, and insanely slim for a phone with these specs

The camera is fantastic in good/normal lighting, artificial or sunlight, and decent in bad lighting, not as bad as some Xiaomi phones, very good camera for a 200 quid phone

The front camera takes really detailed pics too, despite the 4MP it actually has a f2.0 aperture so very crisp

I loved my G3, but it had little software bugs, the battery sucked due to the 2k display, and it got insanely hot and crashed all the time especially with more modern apps and Android systems, the camrea was average and grainy in low light and it was a bit of a clunky phone compared to slimmer phones now

All in all, its a world class phone and I love it, and eglobalcentral do it for a shade over 200 quid, week long delivery, by DPD tracked, and they accept paypal and deal with customs, so honestly, what have you got to lose?

OP3 was my 2nd choice but honestly Oxygen OS is just stock Android, 6GB RAM is total overkill when the Mi5 never lags anyways, and its 100 quid more, so I was like nahhh
Plus I personally prefer the sleeyglass finish, kinda like an S6 or 7, with the curved glass back

That's pretty much all I can think of tbh, as much detail as I could give, holla at me here or PM if you want anything more specific, but honestly a terrific phone

Oh, and PS, I sold the Mi Max without even opening it for a slight profit on ebay UK, I looked at the case I bought and was like :/

I want a phone in my pocket not a Nexus 7 xD
