I'm not a tv person, that's the OHs job. But had to comment as people are voting this cold when you are asking for help! Idiots. That's what I hate about this forum.

if you read the small print on the Tesco warranty it's rubbish. but your tv from John Lewis or richer sounds.

In my opinion you can't go far wrong with a Sony. Saying that the guys in Richer Sounds know their stuff and will usually give you an honest review of their stock. Once you get below the silly priced TV's, i.e. in excess of £1000, then you pretty much do get what you pay for. Like I say just my opinion. Good luck and happy shopping.

spending that kind of money it would be silly not to go a bit more and get 4k, I've just got LG's 850v and it really is fantastic.

I was in Richer Sounds this week buying a couple of TVs. They reckon either Panasonic or Samsung. Panasonic has the edge on picture quality, the Samsung Smart features are a bit easier to use.
I have a 6 mth old 4k panny and its picture is ok but its software is clunky and poor...... value for money not great for the money I spent on it tbh, 4k is a bit over-hyped at moment, however it is slowly building momentum as more 4k sources appear.

I got it from John Lewis not a deal on here but here's a link for one with a good saving if you don't need a stand

hi!!

we got a sony smart tv from JL with soundbar..its smaller than you want but just wanted to say pic is amazing..got a panasonic smart tv for son last year and thats fab too. Went to Martin Dawes and the prices are checked every morning there to be competitive and it was £100 cheaper than elsewhere and free 5yr warranty. Worth ringing them and asking what they got?

Is a source 4k available in the uk from just Digital tv, sky or any of them netflix amazon pay per view subscription sites?
#25
If you have or will get a streaming service like netflix and have a fast Internet service consider a 4k tv if you think you will use it assuming you can afford to pay the large price tag at the moment. Also consider they will drop in price over the next year or so which can be upsetting if you paid top price. There are some really good 50 inch tvs about for around the £450 or less as our own TV which I paid £800 in 2012 I've seen posted here for £250 in Salisburys I think? . A Panosonic plasma. I would pick up a top spec tv being sold off if you can and wait for the 4k tvs to drop in price and see how what happens in a couple of years when sky, virgin and freeview start a 4k service. I have 2 friends waiting for price drops and as one said his intended purchase dropped £350 at Christmas but still over £1000
