Sony TV suddenly won't pickup any ITV station?

Afternoon all,

Can anyone suggest what's happening here.

My mates been calling me since Sunday as his TV has stopped receiving ITV channels (ITV 1 - 3, Dave ect).
It was fine on Saturday, on Sunday it'll get BBC 1 - 4 and BBC News and few of the shopping channels, but that's it?

He's tried a retune, no change.
I've had him do a factory reset and set the channels up again from scratch, but again nothings changed.

The sets about 3 years old.

I not aware of any kind of fault that'll allow it to pick up some channels and not others? But is that possible?

Any suggestions?

Thanks...

Some channels are sent via different transmitters or frequencies, may be the weather has effected the signal or your aerial has been disturbed.

could be aerial, when windy ours won't pick up itv but is find on BBC .

Could be BBC messing around with the transmitter. Does your friends neighbours have the same problem and has he tried another set ?

Thanks for those.

The aerial 'looks' ok from the ground (he tells me), and there hasn't been that much wind.

I've checked the local transmitter and it says there are no faults and no retuning operations are on going.

rats /mice chewed the aerial cable?

Weird, the tuner is a digital circuit now so it should either work or fail. Does he get BBC HD channels or only BBC SD ones ?

Wouldn't that stop all the channels?

HD uses DVB-T2 whilst SD Uses DVB-T1.

Exactly the word I used! It's not an HD receiver set, only the standard Freeview sd.

When it's scans for channels, by the sounds of it, it finds about the right number, but then won't show them. It throws up something like 'Channel not found', or 'Channel number invalid'. But it does that even after a full reset?

Depending on the damage and signal strength it might be enough but I'd expect a lot of errors with all the pictures.

Its your signal, its gotton weak. If you scan the to find programmes in different parts of the house you might get those back but wont work if you move it away again.

Oh, just remembered Over The Air firmware updates sometimes happen on Digital TVs. Might be worth checking if the firmware has updated lately.

Hum, I've just had a call from him (again!) and he can get Dave, but with audio only? That does sound like a weak signal. But the transmitter status say everything is fine? Or do they just not admit to a problem?

It's the BBC they don't care for the little man, didn't he check with his neighbours to see if they have the same problems ?

There's no one home at the moment around him. He works from home, but on one else does!

I'd just be grateful. There's nothing good on any of the itv channels anyway.

I take transmitter readings lightly as a hanger gives a better signals.
