There are loads of parking in west key which is behind ikea or if there full park just next to John Lewis all within 5 min walk of ikea

You can park in the West Key car park very easily, costs maximum of £5 for all day parking. Ikea however give you 3 hours free parking as long as you spend a minimum of £25. You can walk between the two places without going outside - they have a link walkway.

However I imagine it will be absolute mayhem as it's the Sunday before Christmas - last chance for present shopping. I've had to go all the way to the top of that car park on just an ordinary weekend! If the worst come to the worst, you can park quite a distance away as most parking is unrestricted due to it being a weekend (Look around The Polygon circa Morris Road, which would be a 15 minute walk - just as a backup if it's as chaotic as I expect tomorrow :p)

Why not park in Ikea....

I'd avoid parking in town tbh. New restaurants and leisure bit is partly open just to add to the existing chaos.

Perhaps park at a nearby train station and take a train the rest of the way.

Southampton is bad enough when it isn't xmas!

Bus probably more straight forward than the train.

He could park anywhere near Southampton University side-roads (Restrictions are Monday to Friday only) and then get either the U1C or the U6C to within 5 minutes of West Quay (Bus is £3.50 for the day, unlimited Travel on UniLink buses).

If you get to town early enough west quay parking would be fine, but any later than 11am it'll be rammed to get in. Getting out isn't a massive issue. There's also the leisure world car park located behind Ikea which has a lot of spaces. Unsure of prices for that car park but its only a short walk to town centre (like 3-5 mins max!)

You could park in Dunelm carpark 2 hours free, opposite the train station. Or Toys r us car park, i'm sure it won't be that bad (_;)
