Spare wheel/MOT Question

Hello everyone,

I have an MOT tomorrow and, would you believe it, I have had to use my spare wheel on the rear of the drivers side.
Essentially, will this fail the MOT? I have a 2001, 5 door Ford Fiesta and the spare wheel was under the car. For some reason, I'm thinking that it is not a 'temporary' wheel but Is actually classed as a 'spare' meaning it is classed as a normal tyre... Although I'm probably not right about that.

Can you help please?

    Surely it would be quicker and more reliable for you to do the search instead of posting on here and getting a variety of opinions.

    If it is is a spare wheel, it should be the same size as the others.
    If it is temporary, it should be smaller. They usually have a certain speed you shouldn't go over while fitted.

    When I had my Pug 306, it also had a spare under the rear of the car which was full size, so it sounds like it may be the same for you.

    It is and in this instance I think you question is acceptable but that's my opinion and everyone is different.
    Sometimes you can search google for hours and still get different answers
    IMHO I believe CaptCShadow answered your question correctly.

    Check the size on your spare and the one on the other side. Will be something like 195/50/15 they must be the same. If its alloys in your car i have a feeling itll be a different size but thats how yiu find out by comparing the two sizes. If its the same fine if its different it fails

    You either have a full size spare that matches your current wheels or you have an emergency 'spare' which is what most cars have these days.
    These are rubbish tiny wheels that are designed to get you to the nearest garage so you can have the damaged wheel repaired. If you have the emergency spare then you wont pass, if you have the normal spare then should be no problem.

    There is no legal requirement to have a spare but if you have one it must … There is no legal requirement to have a spare but if you have one it must be legal.To be sure, take the spare out before the MOT and replace it after the test.



    Thats incorrect there is a non component related advisory for spare wheel being defective but its not possible to fail it for the spare in any way

    Spare wheel doesn't come into a mot
    Being a 2001 fiesta it will have the same size tyre as the rest on the car
    As long as the wheel and tyre size are the same as the rest it will be fine
    Doesn't matter if your spare is a steel wheel and the wheels on the car are alloys either
    Just make sure it's not a directional tyre as has to rotate correct way

    Sid it is a normal wheel is OK however if it's a space saver it's a fail,if it is normal wheel and it is the car but tyre is flat /unusable it is a fail, i suggest you purchase a part worn tyre about 30 squid fitted

    This is correct the only requirments are the tyres are the same size on an axle.

    The spare wheel can be buckled bald tyre with a massive rip in it and a family of 4 mice living inside it doesnt matter as its not part of an mot
