speakers for pensioners help

Heres the deal my mums a warden in a sheltered housing complex and through the wonders of our tax dollars they are now the proud owners of 50" samsung plasma tv the model number is ps50a457.

Its a great tv but the sounds is really poor so when they have film nights half of the pensioners can't hear. I've gave them a loan of my 2.1 speakers to help a little for their next film tomorrow but its a pretty big room and they really need a decent set of speakers.

So this is where you guys come in as i'm out of my element, can someone recommend a cheapish set of speakers that'll give a good bang to the buck.

the tv has an optical output as well as the red and white audio outputs if that helps and they have £90 left to spend but the less they can get away with spending then the more old dvds they can get as well.

Oh and if possible could it be from an actual shop rather than the t'interweb as they need to keep receipts etc

Cheers guys.

"red and white audio outputs" If it was me, I would just get an amp, and a set of stereo speakers 2nd hand from evilbay. You can use a copy of a Paypal payment as a receipt, so it doesn't need to be from a shop. You will pick up a good NAD 302 amp, or something similar for about £60, plus a set of speakers for about £30, sorted. Search "nearest first" so you might even save on postage as well.
Alternatively, get longer red and white leads, 10mts, and a good ghetto with stereo in, and put the ghetto behind the viewers when watching a movie.

* something like, item no. - 250377882058, but try and get it a bit cheaper, £40 or so, and a lead, done.
Or this - 260365063994. I have that one, and the sound is Amazing!! Rave Kit!! Will go for quite a bit more, because of it's totally quality sound though...

When you attach another set of speakers, remember to turn the TV speakers off. It give a echo sound. I use a Toshiba home cinema, with speakers around the room. Prob best prices are Currys Comet, or even Argos for a cheap, but good on the purse strings. Good luck.

Yeah found that out last night when I set up my logitech 2.1's on it. Couldn't believe how poor the sound was on it. My ****** 32" digimate puts it to shame, well on the sound front anyway lol.

I'll look have a look around currys etc as well. Nothing much online that stands out maybe i'll have better luck instore.
