Supplier for American fridge/freezer with difficult delivery

I would like to buy an American Fridge/Freezer and have my eye on a Samsung RSH1NBRS but it seems that no-one will deliver one to me because I want it in my basement, down a flight of stairs. So far I have ordered the thing from Currys and Argos and both have refused to deliver it. Currys were jerks and first made me wait in all day and then just didn't turn up and, on a subsequent attempt, managed to make it as far as the front door before declaring my stairs a health and safety issue. Argos initially said, yes, no problem, we do it all the time but then rang back 2 days later and asked how many stairs then refused cos it's more than 5 (it's 12).

So... does anyone know of a good supplier who will deliver such a large item down a flight of stairs and generally cope with a tricky delivery. It need not be this model though this particular one is the one I fancy.

My thanks to anyone who can help.

Why not just carry it down your self! Or get a friend to do it?

You will have a problem trying to get anyone to deliver them into the basement! I was going to go for one of those American style fridges myself until I was told that they are double the weight & width of a normal fridge and they would have to take the doors off to get it inside my house - I believe they're pretty difficult to transport/manoevre therefore to get it into basement is going to be headache!

mine was delivered and the doors had to come of so they could get it through my front door (it was delivered by currys and they had no tools on them so my oh was in garage trying to find a tool that fitted they said it was very rare that they go through any doors without taking doors of) so i dont no iif they would be able to get them down stairs but good luck in your search i love mine

we got ours from bennetts delivery was free although we werent ready to have it in the kitchen so they just put it in the garage, then few days later we moved it ourselves into the house & kitchen, didnt need to take any doors off or the fridge doors but we were just lucky i think. Im sure when we bought it we had the option to either pay from standard delivery (ie get it in the door) or go for a full installation delivery which cost more.

You would think if they say it is often the case that the doors need to come off they would have brought tools to do it. Seems like the only tools they took were themselves.

I rang Bennetts and although they were helpful and said that they would have delivered it if I had been local to one of their stores, they couldn't do it to Brighton.

As to why I don't really want to get a bunch of my mates over to carry it down, there are several reasons. Any delivery company is either going to leave it on the pavement outside the house or will leave it in the hall upstairs and then the only way to get anyone into the house would be to climb over the top of the thing. So my friends would have to give up a whole day to wait with me for delivery. Then there'd be the small matter of no insurance and what happens if we drop it or we drop it on top of someone. Hmmm, no thanks.
